The Los Angeles Rams have already made a major move by bringing Myles Garrett to Los Angeles. Now, the possibility of Aaron Donald returning has made the idea of the two defensive stars playing together a lot more interesting.

“But to see Aaron and Myles Garrett play together would be a first of its kind in the history of this league," Marcus Spears said on August 27.

NFL insider Adam Schefter has reported that a Donald comeback is becoming a more realistic possibility.

Nothing is set yet, but if the former Rams star does return, he could join Garrett for what would be a rare combination of two elite defensive linemen, according to Big Lead.

"When you start talking about two dudes that could arguably end up as two top 10 defensive linemen, I think Aaron Donald’s still in his prime, too,” Marcus Spears said on NFL on ESPN on 27 August.

Spears also doesn't think Donald would return simply for the sake of it. He believes the three-time Defensive Player of the Year would still be capable of making an impact.

“I know AD act like he old and he, you know, but at the end of the day he is still going to be a monster if he decides to come back,” Spears added.

Donald made the Pro Bowl in all 10 seasons of his career and won Defensive Player of the Year three times. Garrett already has seven Pro Bowl selections and two DPOY awards.

Spears has spoken about his hopes for the Cowboys making a Super Bowl run in 2026, but the potential of seeing Donald and Garrett together is another storyline that has caught his attention.

For now, Donald's return remains uncertain. If he does come back, though, the Rams would have two defenders capable of changing a game on their own.

Spears isn’t the only one intrigued by the idea, as McVay has also acknowledged that Donald is seriously considering a return.

What’s Next for Aaron Donald?

Aaron Donald’s possible return is becoming a real storyline around the Los Angeles Rams, especially after the team added Myles Garrett.

Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed that Donald is putting himself through a strict training program to see whether he can handle the demands of another NFL season. Donald retired in March 2024 after 10 seasons with Los Angeles.

“If he wants to play, we are going to try to be able to make that happen,” Sean McVay said, according to The Sporting News.

The Rams' interest in a comeback grew after they traded for Garrett, who recorded an NFL-record 23 sacks in 2025. McVay also spoke with Donald before the move, adding another layer to the possibility of the two defenders sharing the same front.

“But this is his decision. He's earned the right to be able to do it on his terms,” McVay added.

Donald hasn't played since the 2023 season and will turn 36 before the 2027 playoffs. The Rams went 12-5 last season and reached the NFC Championship Game before losing to Seattle.

With Garrett and Donald potentially lining up together, Los Angeles could have a very different-looking defense if the three-time Defensive Player of the Year decides to return.
