Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott have met on the playoff stage before. Years later, Rodgers’ comments about those battles offer a different look at their history.

During his appearance on Not Just Football with Cam Heyward on September 8, 2026, Aaron Rodgers called himself a “big fan” of Dak Prescott while recalling their past playoff battles.

“I don't know how people rip on Dak, but I'm a big Dak fan,” Rodgers said. “He had a year, I think it was '22, I believe, '21 or '22, and I watched a lot of his film. I think we had some common opponents, and I just said… but I've always been a fan of his.”

Rodgers then recalled their past playoff battles and explained why he has continued to admire Prescott’s game.

“And we have had a couple of battles in the playoffs over the years, but I am a fan of his, but I just thought under Mike he was playing on time and controlling a lot of scrimmage, making all the throws all over the field,” Rodgers said on @Not Just Football with Cam Heyward.

Aaron and Dak have met once in the playoffs, with Rodgers winning their 2016 Divisional Round matchup. The two quarterbacks later faced each other again during the 2022 regular season, when Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers defeated Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys in overtime.

Rodgers has also had a connection with Mike McCarthy, who coached him during his time with the Green Bay Packers before later becoming Prescott’s head coach in Dallas. That gave Rodgers a closer look at how Prescott developed under McCarthy.

Prescott’s numbers also backed up the level of play Rodgers was praising. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback finished the 2025 regular season with 4,552 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 67.3% of his passes. He also posted a 99.5 passer rating across 17 games.

With their past playoff battles behind them, Rodgers’ view of Prescott has remained the same. After watching his game closely, he made it clear that he remains a fan of the Cowboys quarterback.

While Rodgers praised Prescott, his comments also touched on his own past with the Green Bay Packers and a possible return to Lambeau Field.

Aaron Rodgers hints at uncertain Lambeau Field return

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers discussed a possible return to Lambeau Field on “Wilde and Tausch” on ESPN Milwaukee/Madison radio and suggested that certain people could influence his decision.

“I think there's some people that have a lot of affection for me, and I would assume we're talking four or five years from now... Rodgers said on the ESPN Madison podcast. "That there will be fans...and maybe I wouldn't be on board if they were still there as well.”

Rodgers did not name the people he was referring to, leaving the comments open to interpretation.

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst, who ultimately made the decision to move on from Rodgers and trade him to the New York Jets in 2023, remains with the team. Head coach Matt LaFleur is also still with the Packers, while former team president Mark Murphy retired in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers’ comments leave the door open for a future return to Lambeau Field, though his decision may depend on who remains with the Green Bay Packers at that time.
