Imagine accurately predicting one of the biggest free-agency moves in sports history weeks before it hit the headlines. That is precisely what NFL linebacker Abdul Carter pulled off when he called basketball legend LeBron James' next destination.

On Friday, LeBron James officially signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, ending his eight-season tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. Shortly after, Carter took to X to remind sports fans that he had guessed the blockbuster move on June 2nd.

"Bron is going to the 6ers," Carter wrote on X in June.

Once the signing became official, the Philadelphia native couldn't resist celebrating on social media, once again taking it to his X account.

"Don't say I didn't tell y'all," Carter wrote on X on July 24 with laughing emojis.

Carter's prediction quickly resurfaced after James' decision became official, with fans pointing back to his June post as an unlikely but accurate call on one of the NBA offseason's biggest moves.

James is joining the Philadelphia 76ers on a reported $8 million deal, explicitly citing the team’s championship potential as his primary motivation. 

By teaming up with a star-studded core featuring Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown, the veteran superstar is making a definitive push to capture another ring in the final chapter of his legendary career.

As a Philadelphia native and longtime 76ers fan, Carter had more than bragging rights after James' arrival. Watching one of the NBA's biggest stars choose his hometown team made his accurate prediction even sweeter.

While Carter enjoyed seeing his offseason prediction come true, the Giants linebacker won't have much time to celebrate. His attention now shifts back to football, where expectations for his second NFL season continue to grow.

Abdul Carter shifts attention back to football after LeBron prediction comes true

Carter's offseason wasn't only memorable because of his accurate LeBron prediction. As training camp approaches, the Giants are also expecting a major leap from the second-year edge rusher after an encouraging finish to his rookie campaign.

The NFL MVP is notoriously QB-centric; only two defensive players, Alan Page (1971) and Lawrence Taylor (1986), have ever won it, and no non-QB has claimed the award since 2012.

However, NFL.com’s Kevin Patra named second-year edge rusher Abdul Carter as a dark-horse MVP candidate for the Giants, writing:

"The edge rusher showed improvement down the stretch, logging 3.5 of his four sacks in the final five weeks,” Patra wrote in his NFL report. “With a strong get-off and more seasoning, Carter should put up bigger numbers in 2026." 

Despite a chaotic rookie campaign in 2025, where he was moved around on an undermanned defense under former coordinator Shane Bowen, Carter still posted team highs with 72 QB pressures and a 15.4% pressure rate. 

His play surged late in the season once Charlie Bullen took over the defense, helping Big Blue hold three of their final four opponents under 17 points. His stats in the 2025 NFL season include 17 games played, 43 total tackles (25 solo), 4.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles. 

Carter will now look to carry that momentum into his second NFL season with the Giants. While his accurate LeBron prediction generated plenty of attention this offseason, he'll hope his play on the field becomes the bigger talking point once the 2026 campaign begins.
