The Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, still holds a special place in his heart for the Arkansas Razorbacks football team. Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield recently shared details of his meeting with Jerry Jones, who candidly spoke about his hopes for the Razorbacks program.

During the June 24 appearance on the Andy & Ari On3 podcast, Silverfield recalled the meeting at The Star with Jerry Jones and Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones, where Jerry Jones admitted that he still dreams about seeing the Razorbacks return to prominence on the football field.

“He [Jones] said, 'Listen, the Razorbacks mean everything to me,” Silverfield said. “I love the Dallas Cowboys, but man, I love - and I dream about the Razorbacks having success in football.' That was surreal to hear."

Silverfield expressed being nervous and having a unique experience to sit with Jerry Jones and speak about the strategies and marketing of the Razorbacks program.

He said that, though he had coached against Jerry Jones' Cowboys as an offensive line coach for the NFL Minnesota Vikings (2008-2013) and Detroit Lions (2015). Yet he never had the opportunity to have a one-on-one conversation with the legend.

But landing the Arkansas job gave him the chance to walk into Jerry Jones' office. As Silverfield noted, his office had an Arkansas Razorbacks silver helmet, which was specifically made for him when the team played in the AT&T Stadium, with Cowboys colours and Hog logo on it.

"He [Jerry Jones] told me, 'Understand this - everybody in the entire state loves the Razorbacks,'" Silverfield said in the same On3 show. "'And understand who you represent. Our largest alumni base is actually in Dallas.' So that's really cool to have those conversations."

Jerry Jones played as an offensive lineman for the University of Arkansas and co-captained Arkansas’ 1964 National Championship football team.

Arkansas did not win any SEC games last year and hasn't had a winning season in the SEC conference since 2015, prompting Jerry Jones to discuss multiple strategies and ideas that could help the Razorbacks become more competitive in the SEC.

Though Silverfield has plenty to prove ahead of his first season with the Razorbacks, one former NFL player believes the team can make a comeback under the former Memphis Tigers head coach.

Former NFL QB backs Ryan Silverfield to turn Arkansas around

Former Auburn University and NFL quarterback Jason Campbell endorsed Silverfield's schemes and his direction in revamping the team, which could make the Razorbacks a threat in the college football landscape.

"I'll tell you one thing, [Silverfield] definitely has a plan when you listen to him, he knows the direction he wants to go in," Campbell said during his appearance on The Morning Rush show on June 11. "Everything around the building points to now. He wants everyone to be focused and present where their feet are in the moment."

The Razorbacks finished the 2025 college football season with a record of 2-10 (0-8 in SEC play), where six of their ten losses were decided by seven points or less.

Campbell believes that Silverfield's attempts to change the culture and mindset of the program, focusing on being better every day, give optimism to the fans.

Can the Razorbacks, under Silverfield, fulfill Jerry Jones' vision of seeing Arkansas rise to the top? Let us know in the comments.
