Arrested UFL HC Issues Strong Statement Amid Ongoing Controversy

Most coaches worry about game plans and lineups before a game. But the Columbus Aviators head coach had something far more pressing to deal with. The former NFL wide receiver recently broke the silence after being arrested ahead of his game.
Tedd Ginn Jr. was charged with drunk while intoxicated (DWI) in Tarrant County on Saturday, according to Tarrant County Sheriff's Office records.
Addressing the situation, Ginn Jr. made a statement on his X account.
“I want to address the situation that took place over the weekend. I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve always believed in accountability, and now it’s my turn to live that standard."
The HC further revealed his commitment to learning from this mistake, saying:
“I understand the responsibility that comes with being a leader & role model, and falling short of this is not something I take lightly. I’m committed to learning from this, making better decisions, and earning back the trust of my players, our organization, and the fans."
The Euless Police Department told WSYX-TV in Columbus that Ginn Jr. was stopped by police at 12:58 a.m. Saturday. He allegedly failed a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested. Ginn was later released Saturday on a $1,000 bond, per multiple reports.
The UFL's Columbus Aviators were set to face the Dallas Renegades a day after Ginn Jr.'s arrest. Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley stepped up to handle the head coaching duties.
Unfortunately for the Aviators, they lost 28–23 to the Renegades.
What's Next For Ginn Jr.?
Ginn Jr. joined the Columbus Aviators as a head coach in December 2025 after he retired from professional football. The Columbus Aviators began their play in March 2026, and Ginn has been their HC since the start.
The Aviators, however, had a tough start to the season. They dropped to 0-3 following their recent loss to the Dallas Renegades. However, Ginn Jr. was not the HC of this game given his arrest.
His future after the arrest will depend on both the legal outcome and how his team and league respond. If the charges against him are resolved as a minor offense, he could retain his role.
With looming disciplinary actions as well as continuous losses, his next steps will determine whether this is a temporary setback or a threat to his coaching position.
Do you think the Aviators should retain Ginn Jr.?
