"Big Letdown": Troy Aikman Questions Cowboys’ Future With Dak Prescott

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman has questioned Dak Prescott's durability after the Cowboys failed to make the playoffs last season.

Prescott posted elite quarterback numbers, which should have ideally taken his team into the playoffs. He had 4,552 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, and carried the offense alongsidewide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, recording 2,500 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.

“When you have the type of season that Dak had and the offense had, and you failed to capitalize on it, I mean, that’s a big letdown," said ESPN's Troy Aikman.

"you don’t know if Dak is going to stay healthy, which is not easy to do. And as you get older, it becomes even harder, so can he stay healthy again next year? And if he can, can the offense continue to play at the level they did?" he said in the final Troy Aikman Show of the season.

The analyst also explained that at 32, Dak Prescott may not be able to put in such a prolific performance in the coming season.

“It’s not a given. Every year, it’s a little bit of an unknown. But they had opportunities, this year being one of them. Him being healthy as well as playing on the offensive side of the ball. So they got things that have to be addressed," added Aikman.

Dak Prescott has had a series of injuries, with an ankle fracture in 2020 and a thumb injury in 2022. However, Prescott said he plans to play well into his 40s and is confident of his performance in the field.

He is signed to the Cowboys on a 4-year, $240 million contract that extends till 2028. He will be 35 when his contract with the Cowboys is up. However, Prescott's fitness may not even be the issue going forward.

Cowboys Offense Under Threat With Pickens’ Future Uncertain

With the upcoming George Pickens free agency, they could lose another key piece of thier offense ahead of the 2026 season.

To make matters worse, ex-Cowboys star Micah Parsons seems to be enticing Pickens to join the Green Bay Packers.

Pickens was recently seen on Micah Parsons’ podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, where he asked Pickens, "You ready to be that green and gold?" to which Pickens laughed and avoided answering.

However, teams like the Buffalo Bills are already being linked to Pickens. "Buffalo has an elite quarterback in Josh Allen, but it lacks a true go-to, No. 1 receiver. Pickens, who racked up 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns this past season, could fill that role extremely well," wrote Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox.

The Cowboys have some interesting choices. They could either put a franchise tag on him, trade him for draft picks, or negotiate with him to extend his contract.

However, losing Pickens would be a blow for Dak Prescott & Co. Tell us what you think in the comments.
