Brandon Aiyuk posted many videos online criticizing the San Francisco 49ers front office and even fired his own agent, as he looked forward to joining the Washington Commanders. But looking at his recent actions, the chances seem uncertain.
The wide receiver now finds himself under heavy criticism after cryptic comments and social media activity involving his friend, Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels.
"Brandon Aiyuk is now trash-talking Jayden Daniels and chirping his relationship with his mom," wrote journalist Grant Paulsen on X. "They’ve unfollowed each other on socials. I cannot wait to see how the Commanders fans who have been stanning for this guy react to this. The backpedaling is going to be unreal."
Aiyuk trash-talked Daniels in the video posted on July 4. The statement stood out because Daniels is very close to his mother. Also, his mother, Regina Jackson, is a certified agent and has advised him throughout his career.
"You’re on my team now. You follow my rules," Aiyuk said in an Instagram story post tagged with Daniels' account. "Boy, I'm a grown-a** man. You’re gonna have to stop running behind your momma, and I might believe what you’re talking about."
Aiyuk's relationship with the 49ers has been scrutinized. After signing a four-year, $120 million extension in 2024, the wide receiver is now in an argument with the franchise over contract guarantees and his future with the team.
The 28-year-old has been one of the league's most productive receivers when healthy. He recorded 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, earning second-team All-Pro honors in the 2023 season. These numbers made him an attractive trade target for many teams, including the Commanders.
Meanwhile, Daniels has been the face of the Commanders after a record-setting rookie season that included Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and a Pro Bowl selection. His pairing with his college teammate at Arizona State would make Washington's offense stronger.
While Aiyuk's social media controversy continues, Daniels chose to give a straightforward reply.
"Enjoy retirement, pal," wrote Daniels on his Instagram story, tagging Aiyuk, per the San Francisco 49ers on SI.
Following Daniels' response to Aiyuk's actions, NFL fans quickly delivered their verdict.
NFL fans react to Brandon Aiyuk’s callout
As Paulsen posted about this on X, fans made their feelings known in the comments section.
"Of course we will backpedal, w**? Before he wanted to play for us and was best friends with our QB. Now he’s shit-talking Jayden. Pretty obvious what we would do as fans," a fan wrote.
A few pointed out how targeting the face of the franchise is a counterproductive strategy for a player seeking a trade.
"Dude really don’t know going at a QB1 don’t and prolly won’t sit well wit any front offices especially commanders front office dude ain’t gone have a job like he think he is crazy part is we still don’t know if commanders was actually wanting him," a fan wrote.
"F*** that guy! I was onboard until you shit on our QB," added another.
Aiyuk played just seven games in 2024 before a season-ending injury sidelined him through the entire 2025 season. So, the last productive season he had was in 2023, which the fans pointed out.
"Dude hasn’t done shit in the game to act like he’s the best there is. He had 1 decent season and before that was hurt. Hurt after and just went off rail," commented a fan.
"Something is wrong with this man. I don’t remember any big head shots in the pros. Maybe he had some younger," wrote another.
Now, with Daniels as the QB of the Commanders and the franchise prioritising him, the chances of Aiyuk joining the Commanders are uncertain.
