Dallas Cowboys wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens are already leading the team's receiving corps. But according to one analyst, adding former San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk could give quarterback Dak Prescott another dynamic weapon.

Cody Warren of Inside The Star believes that adding Aiyuk to the dynamic duo of the Cowboys could unlock the Cowboys offense in ways few teams could match and open up options for quarterback Dak Prescott "all over the field".

"Brandon Aiyuk would not be traded to Dallas to come in and copy Lamb and Pickens," Warren wrote on July 12. "I think Brandon Aiyuk would fit between those two very well. Aiyuk’s route running is cleaner than Pickens’, and he creates separation, which helps not to make every catch a wrestling match. If a defense shades outside on Lamb and Pickens, then Aiyuk works the middle."

While Lamb operates as the team's hybrid receiver operating as a primary slot weapon, Pickens serves as the X receiver and a vertical route running threat, who lines up on the outside.

Per Warren's Inside The Star article, adding Aiyuk could be "the biggest football benefit" as he could unlock the Cowboys' receiving corps' potential in different ways.

Warren believes Aiyuk's elite route-running precision and versatility could be fit perfectly into Dallas' WR room.

"George Pickens makes the defense respect the outside threat and is the perfect complement to Lamb, but adding Aiyuk would give Dallas another player who can win quickly and punish softer coverage," Warren wrote.

Aiyuk had posted a total of 294 receptions for 4,305 receiving yards and 25 touchdowns across 69 games played over five years with the Niners.

While Aiyuk's fit alongside Lamb and Pickens is appealing on paper, Warren believes that the financial commitment and potential off-field baggage could make the Cowboys hesitate in making a move.

Aiyuk’s off-field concerns could give the Cowboys pause

Brandon Aiyuk has raised concerns regarding his off-field behavior amid his contract disagreements with the Niners.

"Brandon Aiyuk has burned every bridge in sight," Warren wrote in the same Inside The Star article. "Maybe a fresh start fixes him, but I wouldn’t bet valuable picks and a boatload of money on it."

The 49ers voided Aiyuk of his $27M guarantees after he failed to show up for mandatory team meetings and rehab sessions for his torn MCL and ACL in 2024.

The standoff escalated further as he cut off communication with the franchise and publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the 49ers through his social media posts and videos.

Warren concluded that the Cowboys have enough talent in the WR room with Lamb, Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, and KaVontae Turpin.

So, it is unlikely that the Cowboys will take on the significant risks that come with acquiring Aiyuk.
