The Dallas Cowboys' star kicker, Brandon Aubrey, will remain with the franchise for the 2026 season.
The deadline for free agents was on April 17, and unfortunately, it passed without a competing offer for him.
Aubrey was placed on a second-round tender worth $5.76M for the 2026 season - a move that kept his rights with the franchise, leaving a narrow window for other teams to propose competing offers.
With no team stepping up to make him an offer sheet within the specific date, he ended up with the Dallas Cowboys effective immediately, though the Cowboys have indicated long-term contract discussions are ongoing.
Aubrey, while speaking at the Arlington Grand Prix on March 11, said, “Obviously, Dallas is my home. I’d like to keep it that way, so it would be nice to get a long-term deal going. Just need to sit down and have that conversation."

Aubrey has been one of the most prolific kickers in NFL history. His 14 field goals over a 50-yard distance in a single season is a record.
His best campaign was in 2025, when he made 36 of 42 field goal attempts (85.7%), with 64 being the longest. He converted 47 of his 48 extra point attempts at 97.9%. He handled 101 kickoffs across the season, with 17 touchbacks.
He also earned his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod - a first for a kicker in the Cowboys' history to accomplish that feat for three consecutive years.
He has appeared in 51 games and has made 112 of 127 field attempts (88.2%) and converted 126 of 130 extra points at 96.9% across three seasons in the NFL.
And with a player having such production, the Cowboys made efforts to retain Aubrey long-term, despite the failure of trade negotiations.
Jerry Jones Signals Long-Term Plans for Brandon Aubrey
The Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, addressed the situation previously during his NFL Owners Meeting appearance earlier this year.
“I would say that I'm satisfied short of where we are with him signing the tender offer. I’m satisfied where we are there”, Jones said.
“I’m not going to get into what it would take because that's obviously still subject to negotiation, but we do have long-term plans", he added.
The Cowboys offered Aubrey a deal worth nearly $7M per year- a figure that would have made him the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, surpassing the present benchmark of $6.4M annually of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Harrison Butker.
But negotiations fell through as Aubrey’s agent was seeking a figure closer to $10M per year, making the gap too wide to bridge even by other teams.
And after receiving no offer sheet from competing teams, he is heading into his fourth season with the Dallas Cowboys with plenty of time to negotiate a long-term deal.
