Former Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby's chances of entering the NFL through the Supplemental Draft route are no longer an option. The NFL has now confirmed his eligibility for the 2027 NFL Draft in a memo sent to the 32 teams of the league.

The NFL announced its resolution to allow Sorsby to join the league through the 2027 NFL Draft, without any further disciplinary actions from the league regarding his g******* issues in college.

“We have confirmed with the NFLPA and Brendan Sorsby that there will be no further litigation regarding his entry into the NFL and that instead, Mr. Sorsby will focus on his preparation for entry into the League via the 2027 NFL Draft,” the NFL Memo read, per X post of ESPN's Ian Rapoport on June 30.

Sorsby concluded his stint with Texas Tech and applied for the 2026 Supplemental NFL Draft on June 15, after he was ruled ineligible to continue playing for any college team by the NCAA. However, he will have to wait a bit longer.

“For purposes of League and CBA rules, Mr. Sorsby will be considered a “Draft-Eligible" player for the 2027 NFL Draft," the NFL memo read. "Mr. Sorsby will not be eligible to sign an NFL Player Contract until the completion of the 2027 NFL Draft.”

In early June, Lubbock County Judge Ken Curry granted Sorsby a temporary injunction that allowed him to play for the 2026 season, with a suspension for the first two games.

The NCAA argued that the ruling affected the competitive integrity and filed an appeal to overturn the decision. The NCAA strictly denied Texas Tech’s appeal for Sorsby’s eligibility, as his actions violated strict sports g******* bylaws.

Sorsby placed thousands of bets via a betting app, totalling $90,000 on college and other professional sports over four years. It included wagers on his own teams while he was an active player at Indiana Hoosiers and the Bearcats, according to ESPN's David Payne Purdum.

With his NFL path now redirected to the 2027 NFL Draft, Sorsby reflected on his mistakes through an Instagram post after the NFL's decision.

Sorsby acknowledged his shortcomings in a recent statement posted by him on his Instagram after he was considered eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft.

“I accept 100% responsibility for my actions,” Sorsby posted on his Instagram on June 30. “I did not have control of my g******* problem, and it took getting caught to realize that, but it was truly the best thing that could have happened to me.”

He further wrote in his statement that such issues have led him to seek the help he needed and focus on his recovery.

Sorsby vowed to take his recovery one day at a time, while committing to becoming the best version of himself as he prepares for the 2027 NFL Draft.
