Brian Schottenheimer Had Dinner With Top Prospect as Cowboys’ Staff Marks Presence at Big Event

Defense has been a priority for the Dallas Cowboys, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer is now looking to invest in a first-second round draft talent. He recently had dinner with a top prospect.
According to reports, just the night before the Texas Pro Day, Schottenheimer had dinner with cornerback Anthony Hill Jr. of the Texas Longhorns.
“#DallasCowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer flew to Austin for the dinner with Texas LB Anthony Hill Jr. Monday night. Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer, DC Christian Parker, and Will McClay are in attendance for Texas' Pro Day today,” The Cowboys Network reported on X.
Though the dinner is certainly an interesting development, Hill is still on the radar of other NFL teams like the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants, who have reportedly met with the prospect, too.
The Texas Pro Day is an annual on-campus scouting event that offers players the opportunity to showcase their athleticism through several tests. At the event, the Dallas delegation consisted of Schottenheimer, defensive coordinator Christian Parker, and former coach Will McClay.
This year, the Cowboys have come looking for another draftable linebacker among the Longhorns. Since losing Micah Parsons last year, the team has needed a reliable linebacker who can contribute effectively.
Hill could be the backup DeMarion Overshown needs. Experts have placed him as an LB3 or LB4, thanks to his impressive college performance.
Where Do Anthony Hill Jr's Numbers Rank on the Cowboys’ Radar?
Hill is ranked one among the Top 5 cornerbacks in his draft class based on his NFL Scouting Combine.
He finished the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, just behind Overshown, who took 4.51 seconds. Between 2023 and 2025, Hill made 250 tackles and 17 sacks. He caught three interceptions over 35 yards.
This year, Dallas has eight draft picks, including two in the first round No. 12 and 20). This includes an extra third-round pick from a trade for Osa Odighizuwa.
Meanwhile, Dallas also had a reportedly noticeable presence at the Miami Pro Day, possibly evaluating their first-round pick options.
When asked about the dinner, Hill explained he didn't choose the location but had a good conversation about football.
“I get told where to go, and I’ve just got there. I didn’t get to pick nothing. It was a good conversation, though. We had some laughs and talked some football,” Hill said, in conversation with the Austin American-Statesman.
Whether the cornerback wears the Cowboys’ colors next year is left to be seen. What's your guess? Tell us in the comments.
