The Dallas Cowboys finished second in overall offense last season, and the head coach of the Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer, believes the offensive coordinator, Klayton Adams, will make an even bigger impact in his second year with the team

During the OTA session on June 4, Schottenheimer said one of his biggest takeaways from last season was Adams’ growth and the strong working relationship they developed on the offensive side of the ball.

"This guy is absolutely kicking a**,” per X post of Nick Harris. “He is so much more comfortable this year. He reads my mind ... He's proven it, not only in Year 1, but also in Year 2."

In his first year as an offensive coordinator, Adams helped the Cowboys rank No. 2 overall in total offensive yards per game for the 2025 season, averaging 391.9 yards.

They also ranked second in passing yards (266.3 per game) and seventh in scoring points (27.7 points per game), totaling 6,663 offensive yards and 471 points over 17 games, according to Fox Sports.

Adams previously served as the Arizona Cardinals' offensive line coach from 2023 to 2024. The Cardinals' offensive line unit allowed 1.8 sacks per game in 2024, ranking fifth-best in the league, according to Ali Jawad of Sports Illustrated.

While Schottenheimer handles play-calling, Adams is responsible for the game planning and offensive design.

Adams has previously said that his offensive approach evolves each year, as he intentionally avoids sticking to the same schemes, even if they worked in the past, as per Tommy Yarrish of Dallas Cowboys.com.

With the Cowboys coming off one of the league's most productive offensive seasons, Schottenheimer believes Adams could help the Cowboys reach their Super Bowl goals.

Cowboys Continue Looking at Offensive Line Depth

Adams helped oversee one of the NFL's most productive offenses last season, but the Cowboys could still look to add help up front before 2026 gets underway.

In a recent piece for the Dallas Morning News, Joseph Hoyt pointed to a couple of veteran tackles who could make sense for Dallas. One was Jonah Williams, who spent Adams' final season in Arizona with the Cardinals.

He considers Williams worthy, despite his injuries, as the Cowboys are struggling with having a proven starter at the tackle position.

"Williams was a big free agent signing by the Cardinals in 2024, before Adams' final season in Arizona," Hoyt wrote. "Williams had season-ending injuries in both seasons, however, and played in 15 total games."

Hoyt further noted that the Detroit Lions' left tackle, Taylor Decker, could be added to bring more proven production and veteran presence to the position.

With Tyler Guyton facing constant injuries and inconsistency, adding a veteran as a starter can provide security at the left tackle position.
