A 2026 CFB draft prospect and a Weber State Wildcats' wide receiver is making a bold push for an opportunity, campaigning outside the Dallas Cowboys HQ ahead of the draft. Jayleen Record took an unusual approach to express his desire to be drafted by his favorite team.
In an X post by Joseph Hoyt, Record is seen outside The Star in Frisco, carrying his cleats around his neck and a sign reading,
“I’ll run my 40 right now. Just press record.”
He also claimed on the sign that he could run a top speed of 22.8 mph. This is an eye-catching figure that would surpass the reported 22.23 mph mark recorded by Jahmyr Gibbs, though such numbers remain unofficial and unverified.
The caption of this post also stated Record's belief in his chances of getting picked up
"If I didn't feel like I had a real shot, I wouldn't do this."
Record’s desire to join the Dallas Cowboys is rooted in deep hometown loyalty and lifelong fandom. He attended James Madison High School and played briefly at SMU.
He has a wife and a newborn daughter residing in the Dallas area. Signing with the Cowboys would let him fulfill both his NFL dream and family obligations while staying close to family.
However, Record has not restricted himself to the Cowboys. He has also called for attention from all 32 teams with a message on his X account.
“Dallas raised, and I’ll always represent the city. But I’m not just trying to get on one team. I’m ready for any opportunity."
Despite the attention he’s generating, the question remains: Is his production strong enough to earn a spot with the Dallas Cowboys?
Should Cowboys Take a Chance on Jayleen Record?
According to Avanda Times writer Kevin, Jayleen Record may have a chance with the Cowboys. With CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens leading the depth chart, they could look to add a high-upside depth piece. A player like Record could fit as a versatile option or return specialist, bringing speed and playmaking ability to complement the unit.
Record is not ranked among the top wide receiver prospects on major draft boards, ranking outside the top 100-150 WRs by Dane Brugler's The Beast. (at No.117).
Moreover, at 5'8" and 170-175 lbs, Record is undersized even by gadget-player standards and would be the shortest and one of the lightest players on the roster. Moreover, his production at Weber State was modest (37 catches for 398 yards and 3 TDs in 2025).
The Cowboys’ WR room is already crowded with proven talent (Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin, Parris Campbell, etc.), and Record’s small frame limits him against NFL press coverage and at the catch point.
While his story is inspiring, most long-shot prospects like him rarely make it on 53-man rosters without overwhelming athletic dominance.
But in the NFL, you never know what happens!
Do you think the Cowboys should take on Records?
