With the Dallas Cowboys' mandatory minicamp set to begin on June 16, all eyes are on George Pickens. The star wide receiver recently gave a vague, non-committal response when asked about his attendance. This left the fans and analysts wondering whether he'll show up.

“This team got so much continuity and rapport going. Everything is good. You got new faces in the building. And if he's going to be one of the leaders, you would presume to say that, hey, he should be there this week or next week,” analyst Law Nation noted on the DLSS Sports YouTube channel.

The speculation intensified after Cowboys insider Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram directly asked Pickens about his availability for minicamp. George Pickens responded with an "uhhh" followed by a shrug.

Moments later, a representative from his agency stepped in and cut off the interview, saying he would not be answering any more questions.

Former Cowboys WR Jesse Holley expressed that if Pickens misses minicamp, he could be hit with a fine exceeding $100,000.

“But if he if he does it, I think the fine is upwards of $106,000 for missing mini camp. Funky. A funky 106,” Holley said on the DLSS Sports YouTube channel.

The Cowboys and George Pickens appear to be on a different page. While the head coach Brian Schottenheimer expects Pickens to attend the minicamp, the wide receiver appears to be in no mood to adhere to that.

He is set to earn $27.3 million on the franchise tag this season. And both sides are looking to finalize a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline.

Otherwise, he will have to play out the year on the one-year guaranteed tag. The market continues to rise, as recently Christian Watson secured a four-year, $110.5 million extension carrying an average annual value of $27.62 million.

What Brian Schottenheimer Had to Say About George Pickens' Situation

The George Pickens situation is a complicated one for the Dallas Cowboys.

Pickens is coming off an impressive 2025 season with 93 catches for 1,429 yards. And, if they fail to reach a deal, they risk losing one of the NFL's top wide receivers.

That said, in his recent take, Brian Schottenheimer gave a blunt assessment.

"I think at the end of the day, my job is to just be upfront and honest with these guys, and that's what we did with George. We made it very clear to George that we're not going to do an extension, and we're so thrilled about him being a part of this football team, said the coach as per Roundtable.

The coach further highlighted that, although nothing is personal, whether he gets a deal or not is purely a business decision.

"It's business. It's nothing personal. I'm thrilled when George comes walking through these doors, hopefully next week. I expect to see him next week. Nothing personal? That's the plan,” the coach concluded.

The coach is sure about what he has to do with Pickens, and now all we can do is wait. Will there be a deal? Let us know in the comments.
