The desire to get back onto the field sometimes outweighs everything for many young NFL players. That’s exactly what happened with fellow Dallas Cowboys rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. He opened up about his rookie season during an interview with DLLS Sports on YouTube.
Revel was the Cowboys' 76th, 3rd round pick last season despite him nursing a torn ACL from September 2024 at East Carolina. During the interview, Revel discussed how the decision to return and play immediately was his sole choice and not anybody else’s.
“They asked me if I was ready, and I said, ‘Yeah’. I’m taking accountability for it,” said Revel on June 20. “It was never them. It was always me, and like I said, it’s that heart, that grit, and that determination to go out there and play for the Cowboys.”
In the interview, he further explained his desire to make his mark.
“That’s my opportunity to go out there and showcase at least something, put something on the map,” said Revel. “Put my name on the map and do something at least, and learn from it. I ain’t really do too much, and it’s up to me. Like I said, I put myself out there.”

During the 2025 season, Revel made his debut for the Cowboys in their Week 11 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders. He ended the season with 7 games played with 5 starts, 35 tackles, and 3 pass deflections.
Expectations are high for the CB Revel now that he is fully healthy and will be expected to become a main piece of the Cowboys’ defense.
With one aspect of the defense cleared, the Cowboys are expected to go after a star defender.
Cowboys targeting star defender from AFC east
While the Cowboys’ defense has gotten better, there are still doubts over the linebacker position. The Cowboys tried to sign stars like Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean, but ended up with Dee Winters from the 49ers via a trade involving a fifth-round pick.
It is expected that Dallas will have DeMarvion Overshown as the starter, but ESPN analyst Aaron Schatz has a different idea for the Cowboys.
According to Schatz, with the Miami Dolphins trying to cut costs and work their way to financial freedom, the Cowboys could target linebacker Jordyn Brooks.
“Look, is there any point in the Dolphins keeping good players if their contracts end after the 2026 season?” wrote Schatz on June 18. “Brooks was a first-team All-Pro linebacker last season, leading the league with 183 total tackles and adding 3.5 sacks as a blitzer. He would be a useful addition for a team with a contending-quality offense but also a need at linebacker, perhaps the Bengals or Cowboys.”
But that trade remains up for speculation, as the Dolphins have released no official statement regarding the same.
With the Cowboys not having great draft capital, do you think they should trade for Brooks? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
