Cowboys Connected Supplemental Draft QB By NFL Insider

As the NFL Supplemental Draft draws closer, former Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby has emerged as an intriguing prospect for several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero recently discussed on Good Morning Football whether Dallas could consider using draft capital on Sorsby despite already having Dak Prescott in place as its starter.

“Would there be anything more Jerry Jones than using a second- or third-round pick on Brendan Sorsby?” said Pelissero, “[and] keeping him in the great state of Texas and putting a star on his helmet.”

Pelissero connected the Cowboys to Sorsby as a potential supplemental draft fit, pointing to Jerry Jones' history of aggressive roster moves and the quarterback's Texas roots.

Despite having Dak Prescott in place as the starter, Pelissero pointed to the Cowboys' recent efforts to strengthen their QB depth when implying Sorsby as a possible supplemental draft option.

“We’ve seen Jerry Jones in the past go out and trade for a Joe Milton [or] this year bringing in a Sam Howell [while] trying to figure out who is [their] backup to Dak Prescott,” Pelissero said. “Who could be the quarterback after Dak Prescott.”

Last season, he threw for 2,800 yards with 27 touchdowns against just five interceptions in 2025 while adding nearly 600 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground, earning Second-Team All-Big 12 honors.

However, his career in the NFL has been overshadowed by g******* issues that ended his college eligibility. Though an injunction was passed, he is now eligible to play for the 2026 season.

The debate surrounding Sorsby is not about talent. The bigger question is how much his off-field situation will affect where he comes off the board.

NFL Insider Says, Brendan Sorsby Can Be a First-Round Talent

Brendan Sorsby enters the supplemental draft carrying off-field baggage, but NFL analysts are impressed by his talent. He recorded 60 passing touchdowns and 1,295 rushing yards during his college career.

“Multiple people mentioned to me if Brendan Sorsby had been in the 2026 draft, there was a conversation about whether or not he could have been QB1,” Pelissero said.

“That may not be the consensus, but all it takes is one team, and the fact the talent alone and his skill set puts him into that category tells you this guy would’ve been a first-round pick in 2027," Pelissero added.

While Pelissero's comments were speculative, Sorsby's Texas ties and perceived first-round talent help explain why the Cowboys emerged as part of the discussion ahead of the supplemental draft.
