Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams enters his first full season in 2026 with the Dallas Cowboys with a single goal: to help lead the team to a deep postseason run
“Everybody knows we have a great offense, and it’s our job on defense to win championships because that’s the saying,” Williams said during the training camp news conference, according to Larry Ramirez of KSAT.com. “We got a long way to go from last year, and I’m just extremely focused on that and extremely dedicated to that.”
Williams, who was acquired from the New York Jets in a midseason trade last year, is expected to play a key role in the Cowboys' defensive rebuild after the team missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons.

Williams pointed to the Cowboys' defensive struggles in 2025, when the unit finished near the bottom of the league (No. 30) after allowing a franchise-record 511 points, despite fielding an offense that ranked second in total offense.
The four-time Pro Bowler said the Cowboys' quarterback, Dak Prescott's belief in him, has fueled his motivation to help lead the Cowboys to compete for the Lombardi Trophy.
“You got an offensive leader like Dak Prescott, who’s going to come out and push you to be the best defense every single day because he wants you to get better, because he knows defense wins championships,” Williams said, according to Larry Ramirez of KSAT.com.
Williams has posted 41.5 sacks, 343 tackles (208 solo), 110 QB hits, and 15 passes defended across 105 games played over seven seasons in the NFL.
The Cowboys believe Williams can anchor the revamped defense alongside DT Kenny Clark, pass rusher Rashan Gary, safety Jalen Thompson, and rookie Caleb Downs. Williams is one of the league's most effective run defenders.
With contract extensions taking a back seat, his attention remains fixed on helping the team return to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since the 1995 season.
Quinnen Williams puts Cowboys before contract amid booming DT market
Williams expressed his desire to be with the Cowboys for a long time, putting the contract talks behind him while focusing on leading the defense to a higher level.
"It's just phenomenal to see the impact that my position, defensive tackle, is making," Williams said, per Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com. "Those guys have been very effective and things like that. That's all I focus on, just focus on bringing an impact to this team, bringing an impact to this defense, and trying to get this team going in the right direction so another d-tackle will be in the Super Bowl."
Williams ($24M annually) pointed to the growing value of DTs around the league, with the Philadelphia Eagles signing DT Jalen Carter to a four-year deal ($38M per year) and the Tennessee Titans having DT Jefferey Simmons through the 2030 season ($35.28M annually)
Rather than chasing a new deal, Williams intends to help transform the Cowboys' defense into a championship unit, believing that team success will eventually take care of the contract.
