Cowboys emerge as potential landing spot for Shedeur Sanders

The Dallas Cowboys have entered the conversation surrounding Shedeur Sanders' future, with fresh speculation placing the young quarterback with the team.

This new take came from PFSN's Cooper Kleinberg, who named Dallas as a team that could make sense if the Cleveland Browns eventually decide to move Sanders.

“Jones could acquire Sanders for relatively cheap and give him the opportunity to develop behind Dak Prescott as the team's long-term backup," Kleinberg wrote on July 1.

According to PFSN writer Cooper Kleinberg's July 1 report, the Cowboys have also brought in young quarterbacks in recent years. They traded for Trey Lance in 2023 and acquired Joe Milton III from the New England Patriots in the 2025 offseason.

The 23-year-old young quarterback appeared in eight games for Cleveland in 2025, throwing for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns, making him a QB worth developing and a good prospect for Dallas.

Moreover, Shedeur also has ties to Dallas through his father, Deion Sanders, who played for the Cowboys in the 1990s and shares a decade-long friendship with owner Jerry Jones.

The NFL legend was also briefly linked to the team's head coaching opening after Mike McCarthy's departure.

The discussion around Sanders picked up after ESPN Cleveland host Tony Rizzo said the Browns had been receiving calls about the quarterback's availability.

"There are talks, ongoing calls about the availability of Shedeur Sanders," Rizzo said. "Nothing is imminent. But the calls are being made, and I think it's probably in the best interest of both parties here."

For now, Sanders remains with the Browns while talk of a possible move to Dallas continues ahead of the new season.

That ongoing discussion has also brought strong reactions from former players on what Cleveland should do next.

Joe Thomas warns Browns not to rush Shedeur Sanders move

According to a 92.3 The Fan radio show in early July 2026, Hall of Fame left tackle Joe Thomas said the Browns should not rush to move Sanders. He felt trading the QB for a small return would be a mistake at this point in his progress.

“If you're just gonna throw him away for a fourth-rounder, it makes no sense because we have no idea what he can be as our starting quarterback,” Thomas said. “He's a development project. He's got a lot of work to do. He needs time to develop.”

Browns head coach Todd Monken has also noticed Sanders’ offseason progress, which has helped him stay firmly in the mix heading into camp.

For now, the Browns are not rushing any decision on Sanders. Even with trade talk outside, the focus inside the team is to let things play out in camp, and his future will depend on how he performs going forward.
