Cowboys Eye Surging Oregon OL Alex Harkey Ahead of NFL Draft

The Oregon Ducks have several draft prospects lined up for the upcoming draft.

While the most notable names include tight end Kenyon Sadiq and safety Dillon Thieneman, offensive lineman Alex Harkey has caught the attention of the Dallas Cowboys.

Pete Nakos from On3 reported that Harkey has had private workouts scheduled with the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams.

In addition, he has also attended meetings with several other teams, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, San Francisco 49ers, and Denver Broncos.

Harkey’s journey to the NFL has been a long, winding road. His career started in 2021 as a tight end at Tyler Junior College, Texas. He then played for the Colorado Buffaloes for a year, then returned to Texas with the Texas State Bobcats.

He then transferred from the Bobcats to the Ducks, where he was the starting right tackle.

At 6-foot-6 and 327 pounds, Harkey has that he has a good physical build, but needs to improve on his stability.

"Harkey has the mass to play guard, but needs to prove he has the core strength to deal with interior bullies. He can operate in both gap and zone schemes. However, he will need better patience/body control to fit and sustain at the desired level," his profile reads.

Harkey is set to play at Oregon’s Pro Day in March, where he will be excited to show off his skills.

Jerry Jones is looking to get aggressive in free agency this offseason

Jerry Jones has stirred up fans by saying that he plans to be more aggressive this offseason in free agency.

Combining this with his “bust the budget” comments, he seems to have taken on a fresh outlook this offseason.

"I could see us being aggressive in free agency," Jones said. "By the very virtue of having two number ones, we're gonna spend more money in the draft than normally you would spend… I would bet that we will spend more money in free agency than we have."

The Cowboys will be looking to spend much of this money in shoring up their defense, which has several gaps to be filled.

Jones also agreed that the defense is what pulled the team down last season. He plans to construct a defense that will stand toe to toe with the powerful offense the Cowboys possess.

Jones said on the matter, "A defense that could support an offense the way that we played at the level last year, and get us into the playoffs, and give us a chance to get good after we get in the playoffs, I see that defense this year. I do. We don't have to do much to get better.”
