Cowboys fan gifts Dak Prescott a custom hat honoring his late brother

On Thursday, after the Dallas Cowboys' sixth training camp practice, a fan surprised Dak Prescott with a custom hat featuring his late brother, nearly reducing the quarterback to tears.

While the hat featured a photo of his deceased brother Jace, he couldn’t recognize it at first. When he finally did, he regretted not being able to meet the man who gifted him the hat and properly thank him.

“I didn’t see it until I got with my daughters,” Prescott said. “I took it out and saw my brother’s face on it. It’s awesome,” Prescott said, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The hat really meant a lot to him, as it not only reminded him of his brother but also of all his work supporting mental health.

“That actually means a lot. I wish I knew who did it, so I could tell them a little more than thank you," said Prescott.

Since losing his brother Jace in April 2020, Prescott has become a strong advocate for mental health.

He turned his grief into a mission to help others through his Faith Fight Finish Foundation.

For years, he has been involved in mental health initiatives, hosting fundraising galas and supporting efforts aimed at helping people facing depression and adversity.

Prescott really wanted to meet the person who made the hat, and the universe certainly answered his call.

The fan steps forward — Prescott gets his chance to thank him

Determined to thank the fan personally for such a meaningful gift, Dak made sure to connect with him. Sure enough, the quarterback got a chance to do so, and the heartfelt interaction was caught on camera.

"For real? You did this? Man, get in here, brother, for real," Prescott added before dapping the fan up and hugging him.

It was certainly a moment of both respect and emotion for both the quarterback and the fan.

Having lost his brother and then building a foundation in his memory, Prescott has been fighting a silent battle for years.

"He had a lot of burdens on him," Prescott said of Jace in an interview with Graham Bensinger in 2020. "He had a lot of tough things, and my sense of saying that is it showed me how vulnerable we have to be as humans, how open we have to be.”

Now entering his 11th year in the league, he will make sure to perform at his very best, at least so that his brother up above would be proud of him.

Do you think it was a good gift from the fan?
