Cowboys Fans Told To Laugh At Jalen Hurts Eagles Drama

The Philadelphia Eagles are still viewed as the top team in the NFC East, but their turbulent offseason has raised questions about the franchise.

One analyst believes that the growing uncertainty surrounding quarterback Jalen Hurts contract and the team’s internal dynamics may give the Dallas Cowboys fans plenty to laugh about.

"The Cowboys can only laugh at the Eagles' Jalen Hurts conundrum," SportsDFW's Ernesto Cova wrote on Sunday.

During an interview with The Athletic’s Zach Berman during the OTA sessions, Hurts was asked about his contract situation as he is entering his fourth-year of his $255M deal ($51M average annual salary) with the Eagles.

"For me, I'm truly focused on being the best I can be right now,” Hurts said, per X post of Zach Berman. “That's where my energy is. There's a lot of change, as is. I'm focused on this offense. I'm focused on building with Sean [Mannion] and being at my best."

Rather than addressing the possibility of a contract extension, Hurts downplayed the situation. He shifted the focus to changes in the offense, including the addition of new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion and the adaptation to his new scheme.

Jalen Hurts has a Super Bowl MVP win and two NFC championship victories to his credit.

He has recorded 1,542 of 2,393 passes attempted for 17,891 yards and 110 touchdowns across six seasons with the Eagles.

Hurts also completed 294 of 454 passes for 3,224 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2025, the highest touchdown total in his career.

Ernesto Cova believes the attention surrounding his uncertain contract extension is another distraction that the Eagles should manage, and that any such changes can work in the Cowboys' favor.

“The Eagles always let outside narratives interfere with the product on the field, and watching them get into a staring contest with their overrated, overpaid quarterback is just the kind of entertainment Cowboys fans love,” Cova wrote.

The Cowboys could have an advantage in the 2026 season, with their revamped defense and drama-free offseason, while the Eagles recently dealt with a high-profile trade of wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots.

As the Eagles remain one of the NFC East's top contenders, the impact of their offseason changes will not be clear until the season begins.

Cowboys-Eagles Thanksgiving Showdown Could Shape NFC East Race

Matthew Holleran of SB Nation lists the Eagles- Cowboys Week 12 match as one of the major matches that will define the Cowboys’ 2026 regular season.

"The Cowboys are 0-2 in those matchups [Thanksgiving games], and breaking that trend will be pivotal if they want to take back the NFC East this season," Holleran wrote.  "Whoever walks away victorious on Thanksgiving Day may very well end up walking away with the NFC East title at season’s end."

Holleran believes that the Cowboys have a 'soft landing' into this Thanksgiving matchup, as they face non-playoff teams [Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans] in three of the four games before the holiday.

The Cowboys cannot afford to lose this matchup at home against the Eagles, as the result could determine their division title chances, based on their early-season record, as Holleran noted.

All in all, the stakes could be enormous for Dallas. As Matt Holleran pointed out, a home clash against the Eagles could have major implications for the NFC East race, and the Cowboys can ill afford to let a key divisional game slip away.
