Cowboys Get Final Answer on Trading for Myles Garrett from Browns GM

The 2025 season had all the spotlights on the Cleveland Browns' superstar, Myles Garrett. But this season, Garrett's name floated in the conversation of a Browns trade with the Dallas Cowboys. That's when the Cleveland GM, Andrew Berry, dropped the final answer on the exchange talks.

According to the reports by ESPN's Field Yates, the defensive end decided to modify his contract. But the Cleveland GM clarified it has no connection with the trade.

“If we wanted to trade Myles, we wouldn’t have needed to make a contract adjustment,” Berry said at the NFL’s annual meeting. “So it doesn’t have anything to do with that.”

Indeed, a big miss for Dallas. If things went their way, Garrett would have single-handedly held the reins of their struggling defense. The unit was one of the worst in the NFL, surrendering more than 500 points. But at the moment, Garrett will be with the Browns, where he added two NFL Defensive Player of the Year feathers, one that came last season.

The seven-time Pro-Bowler has 125.5 sacks, of which 23 of those came in the 2025 season, making that an NFL record for most sacks in a single season.

Trade request tensions started to grow in February, and the Browns dished out a four-year extension last March to shut it down. Other than confirming that the player and the Browns are on good terms, Berry talked about what Garrett means to them.

What else did Andrew Berry say about Myles Garrett?

The 30-year-old will enter his 10th NFL season with the Browns. Over the last decade, Cleveland has been known for Garrett's success in large ways.

"Myles is a career Brown,” Berry came with a straightforward answer for any franchise looking to acquire Garrett. “He is one of the faces of our organization. I think we’ve been very clear both past and present in terms of our feelings. I understand all the questions. I’ll be honest, I don’t really want to waste a ton more breath on the topic.”

Even though Berry made himself clear about the Browns retaining Garrett, it was not easy. Cleveland limped badly while wrapping the 2025 season with a 5-12 overall record. In the meantime, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz took an exit.

"I love playing for him [Schwartz]," Garrett said about the Browns' former coach just before the season ended.

It will indeed be a challenge for Myles Garrett to adjust under a new defensive coordinator. But it's Cleveland's ultimate flex that they slammed the door shut on the Garrett trade with Dallas.
