Cowboys Greats Make Feelings Clear About Team Direction

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and three-time Super Bowl Champion is unhappy with the team's trajectory. Several other Cowboys' legends have also raised similar concerns surrounding the issue.

According to a report from Dallas Morning News, former Cowboys' QB Troy Aikman has expressed his dissatisfaction regarding limited opportunities to help the franchise.

“I didn't expect that type of opportunity with the Cowboys," Aikman said. "So I'm not surprised it hasn't come.”

Aikman took over as the Miami Dolphins’ consultant to find thier next general manager and head coach in January. However, he never received an offer from franchise owner, Jerry Jones.

“I always root for the Cowboys and I want to see the Cowboys do well,” Aikman revealed. “The Dolphins reached out and asked if I could help.”

Aikman lifted his third and final Lombardi Trophy in 1996. The Cowboys are unable to win a Super Bowl championship since Aikman's tenure. Similarly, his former teammate Emmitt Smith resonates with Aikman's dissatisfaction.

The former 1993 MVP believes Aikman's presence in the Cowboys' front office would benefit the organization. He also discussed how he doesn't plan on helping the franchise unless requested by Jerry Jones.

“If you don't reach out, then it ain't no need for me to give you my opinion, because you don't need my help,” Smith said. “But if you reach out, you think I'm an asset that can add value. The Dolphins reached out to Troy Aikman because he can add value.”

Smith played 13 seasons and also won three Super Bowl titles with the Cowboys. He has four rushing titles and was a cornerstone of their former dynasty.

While Smith thinks the former players’ voices carry weight, Darren Woodson firmly disagrees.

“When I was in the locker room, yes, I had a voice in the fact knowing what we lacked and how we could get better,” Woodson said. “But once you exit that locker room, your voice doesn't carry much. It really doesn't.”

The former safety is a three-time All-Pro and three-time Super Bowl winner. Despite his stance on the Aikman-Cowboys scenario, Woodsen wished “kudos to Miami” for taking the direction Jones did not take.

While these players still care for their former franchise, another player feels the opposite and appears to hold a grudge against Jones.

Terrell Owens Still Holds a Grudge Against The Cowboys 15 Years Later

In an interview with Action, Terrell Owens revealed how he feels about the Dallas Cowboys and their decision makers.

“I don't concern myself with the Cowboys,” Owens said. “The Cowboys haven't concerned themselves with me since I left there. That's speaking of Jerry Jones or anybody really from that organization.”

In 2008, Owenswas offered an extension that would’ve paid him a $12.9 million bonus and kept him under contract through 2011.

However, Owens was released ahead of the 2009 season. Jones expressed 'the goal was to improve the morale in the locker room.'

While Aikman revealed that his relationship with Jones is “cordial,” it is a far cry from Owens’ experience. Should Jones have brought back Aikman before the Miami Dolphins took him?
