The Cowboys' defensive overhaul is complete. Following the 2026 NFL Draft, Dallas has officially turned the Micah Parsons trade from last year into five defensive prospects this year. These additions aim to revive a unit that finished 30th in total defense last season.
Dan Rogers (@DannyPhantom24), a Cowboys analyst, summed it up after the draft, as he wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"The book on the Micah Parsons trade is officially closed. Packers get: Micah Parsons. Cowboys get: Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, Malachi Lawrence, Devin Moore, LT Overton."
Parsons' trade last year brought in Kenny Clark and the first-round picks from Green Bay in 2026 and 2027. Clark played in all 17 games in 2025 with the Cowboys, making 36 tackles and three sacks.
Now, the 2026 first-round pick Dallas received turned out to be pick No. 20, and the Cowboys traded that with the Philadelphia Eagles to get picks Nos. 23, 114, and 137. Malachi Lawrence, Devin Moore, and LT Overton took those three spots, respectively.
GM Jerry Jones basically gave one spot for three more.
Also, for the 2027 first round pick, the Cowboys traded the latter with a 2026 second round pick and Mazi Smith in exchange for Quinnen Williams with the New York Jets. However, this move cost Dallas an extra $7.5 million a year on Williams' contract.
So basically, Dallas chose depth in the 2026 NFL Draft. And it makes sense for them to try to create a solid defensive front going into the 2026 season.
Packers Drafted Dani Dennis-Sutton To Aid Micah Parsons
In the fourth round, Green Bay picked Dani Dennis-Sutton, an edge rusher from Penn State, at No. 120. Dennis-Sutton talked about the pick on a Zoom call.
"Obviously, it's a dream come true, so it's exciting. I saw Green Bay call, I was super-excited. I knew Micah was on the team, and we have a great defense and a great team. So I was super-excited for the opportunity," Dennis-Sutton said to the reporters.
Dennis-Sutton had 23.5 career sacks at Penn State over four seasons, which puts him sixth all-time in school history. In 2024 and 2025, he had 8.5 sacks in each of those seasons.
With the 2026 draft complete, the full return from the Micah Parsons trade is now clearer. Dallas turned that move into several defensive additions, while the Green Bay Packers used their side of the deal to add Parsons and later draft Dani Dennis-Sutton.
