Cowboys HC Announces Plans on Making Offseason Moves to Address Key Position

The Dallas Cowboys have reshaped their roster this offseason, and their head coach has disclosed the team’s plans for a major position moving forward.

Nick Harris reported on X that when HC Brian Schottenheimer was asked about adding another middle linebacker to the roster, he seemed content with the athletes currently on the team.

“No, I’m comfortable with where we are. We’re not NOT looking. We’re not not evaluating."

The Cowboys started Phase One of their offseason workouts on April 20 at The Star in Frisco, where the team is set to evaluate the linebackers already added to the roster, according to Schottenheimer.

“Adding Dee and adding Jaishawn and adding Curtis Robinson, we’ll get an opportunity to evaluate these guys once Phase One ends — which it’ll end this week, and we’ll start Phase Two.”

During the NFL Draft, the Cowboys traded for Dee Winters from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round No. 152 pick. He comes in as an experienced linebacker with 101 tackles and one interception in 2025.

They also drafted Jaishawn Barham in the third round of the Draft, who had versatile experience in college, ranging from linebacker to edge rusher. He started 12 games in 2025, finishing the season with 32 tackles, 10 for loss, and four sacks.

In addition, for depth, they added veteran Curtis Robinson, who served as the 49ers’ backup linebacker.

Schottenheimer also mentioned that the linebackers are set to be brought onto the same page as the other athletes on the team. However, he did not completely rule out adding more linebackers if needed.

“We’re never closed for business. At the end of the day, we have a good group of linebackers. Now, it’s about training them with Christian [Parker] and Scott Symons and those guys and getting them all on the same page of the system we want to run.”

Even the linebackers coach, Scott Symons, seems very excited about the additions.

Scott Symons Gives His Take On The Newest Additions

After Day 2 of the NFL Draft, when the Dallas Cowboys added Dee Winters and Jaishawn Barham, Scott Symons couldn’t contain his enthusiasm.

“I'm really excited about the guys that we currently have and the guys that we've added to this room, from a culture standpoint, from a leadership standpoint, I think we have a really good foundation to build on in there.”

Symons had been vouching for Winters for a long time. He had seen Winters’ style up close while coaching for SMU against TCU. He also touched upon the fact that all the linebackers had an “alpha mentality,” which would work in the defense’s favor.

With such high expectations, hopefully, the Cowboys have finally found what they were looking for on defense.

Do you think the current linebacker depth is good enough for the season?
