Dallas Cowboys' head coach Brian Schottenheimer is breaking headlines with the sale of his luxurious McKinney home. With pressure building up for the upcoming season, his latest move portrays a stronger commitment to the Cowboys' future.

Schottenheimer decides to sell his Texas estate in the Stonebridge Ranch community in McKinney for $3.8 million. His listing agent Carrie Himel claimed he is selling the estate to reduce his daily commute to The Star in Frisco.

"It really is just time closer to work," Himel said. "Every minute counts when you're at that level, for him."

The statement shows Schottenheimer's committment heading into his second season with the Cowboys. After the franchise struggled defensively during the 2025 season, the team is focused on making the playoffs this season.

The McKinney property was located nearly 15 miles away from the Cowboys' headquarters. It had an estimated commute time of about 30 minutes.

While the commute might be adjustable for most people, it is not the same for NFL coaches. These coaches routinely spend long hours inside facilities studying film, managing staff, and preparing game plans.

Moving closer to the team facility could allow Schottenheimer more flexibility for meetings, player development, and offseason preparation.

Schottenheimer served as an offensive coordinator for the Cowboys before being promoted to head coach in 2025. He also worked as an offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, and New York Jets.

Dallas has gone through important defensive restructuring this offseason. It includes the changes in the coaching staff, multiple key draft additions and reliable undrafted free agents.

The franchise hopes the coach can help the team return to playoff contention and compete for the NFC Championship 2026. To make it happen, they are looking to add a star linebacker from the Miami Dolphins which could further bolster their defensive roster.

Cowboys Linked to Dolphins' $10M Defensive Star

Sports Illustrated's Randy Gurzi believes the Cowboys should trade for Miami Dolphins' star linebacker, Jordyn Brooks. The notion is raised after the Dolphins GM did not extend his contract and drafted Jacob Rodriguez in this year's draft.

Therefore, Miami may consider moving the linebacker to create salary cap flexibility while saving for the team ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Veteran Jordyn Brooks carries a $10 million price tag, which can be a possible trade target as Dallas continues to seek consistency at the linebacker position.

Dallas has already made several defensive changes this offseason. Adding Brooks can improve their defense after an inconsistent 2025 season. He earned First-Team All-Pro honors in 2025 and also led the entire league with 183 combined tackles.
