The Dallas Cowboys continue to monitor the health of several key players, as the mandatory minicamp starts next week.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer recently provided updates on cornerback DaRon Bland and four other players, providing more insights into their recovery process ahead of the late July training camp.
“S. Jalen Thompson is with the rehab group recovering from a pec strain, Schottenheimer says it's 'nothing crazy," per X post of Tommy Yarrish. "CB DaRon Bland is still working through recovering from his foot injury."
DaRon Bland suffered a foot injury and was placed on injured reserve, making him sit out for the last three games of the 2025 regular season. He has undergone surgery on the same left foot twice, as he had suffered a fracture in the 2024 training camp.
The back-to-back injuries have cost Bland 15 games across two seasons, where he played for only 7 games in 2024 and 12 games in 2025.
"EDGE Donovan [missed the OTAs] day for a personal reason. WR Jonathan Mingo is dealing with a groin injury. OL Matt Hennessy is having neck surgery and will more than likely start the year on PUP," Schottenheimer added.
Pass rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku underwent a hip labrum surgery in late January 2026 to repair a torn labrum. With Ezeiruaku projected to start as an outside linebacker, he is expected to be available from the start of the training camp.
Schottenheimer also provided injury updates on several other key players, offering a clearer picture of the roster's health ahead of next week's mandatory minicamp.
Cowboys HC Provides Additional Roster Updates
During the OTA media session on June 9, Schottenheimer updated that wide receiver Jonathan Mingo suffered a minor groin strain, according to the Dallas Cowboys YouTube channel.
Mingo previously suffered knee injuries (PCL sprain) that caused him to miss the start of the 2025 season.
"Jonathan Mingo's got a groin strain," Schottenheimer said. "He'll be limited to mocks and walkthroughs that you guys [reporters] don't see."
If Mingo sits out, Tyler Johnson is expected to compete for the role in the roster along with veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling and rookie Anthony Smith for the WR5 spot.
Offensive lineman Matt Hennessy is undergoing neck surgery to repair a disc issue, according to Schottenheimer.
He is most likely to start the year on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, leaving the center spot behind Cooper Beebe thin for the 2026 season.
Schottenheimer further updated that safety Jalen Thompson is undergoing a minor pec strain, but assures that it's nothing to worry about.
As a possible green dot candidate, Thompson is expected to bring in his versatility, leadership, and veteran experience to a secondary that also features P.J. Locke and Caleb Downs.
Despite a few injury concerns, the Cowboys expect much of their roster to be available as offseason training for the 2026 season continues. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments.
