Cowboys hit with mediocre offensive line ranking ahead of training camp

While much of the attention during the offseason centered around the Dallas Cowboys' defensive overhaul, the spotlight is now shifting to the players protecting quarterback Dak Prescott. Ahead of the training camp, one NFL analyst gave an underwhelming ranking for the Cowboys' offensive line.

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis recently ranked the Cowboys' offensive line at No. 18 for his 2026 predicted rankings. Sharp ranked the Cowboys' O-line at No. 16 for the 2025 season predicted rankings.

“Ranking the best offensive lines: 1. Denver Broncos,” per X post of Warren Sharp. “2. Philadelphia Eagles; 3. Buffalo Bills; 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers; 5. Los Angeles Rams; 6. Chicago Bears; 7. San Francisco 49ers; 8. Los Angeles Chargers."

Sharp ranked the Eagles at No. 2, topping the offensive line unit in the NFC East division, while ranking the New York Giants and Washington Commanders outside the top 15.

"9. Seattle Seahawks; 10. Atlanta Falcons; 11. Indianapolis Colts; 12. Carolina Panthers; 13. Minnesota Vikings; 14. Detroit Lions; 15. New England Patriots; 16. New Orleans Saints; 17.Jacksonville Jaguars; 18. Dallas Cowboys.”

With Cooper Beebe at the center, Tyler Smith at right guard, Tyler Booker at left guard, and Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele at left and right tackle positions, respectively, the Cowboys' offensive line boasts one of the youngest units in the league.

However, the offensive line struggled with inconsistency and a lack of proven depth at the left tackle position, as Guyton's production since his rookie season has been marred by injuries.

The 2024 first-round pick has appeared for 25 games (21 starts) out of 34 possible regular-season games in the last two years. He logged 1,320 snaps across two seasons.

Guyton is set to battle with Nate Thomas (2024 seventh-round pick) for the left tackle position in the training camp, as previously revealed by the Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer during the OTAs.

While the rest of the offensive line is expected to return healthy, the spotlight now falls on Guyton. His development at left tackle could be a deciding factor in whether the Cowboys' young offensive line takes a step forward in 2026.

Training camp could be crucial for Tyler Guyton's future with the Cowboys

Wynston Wilcox of Fansided pointed to Guyton as one of the five Cowboys players who have plenty to prove in the training camp ahead of the 2026 season.

"When you look at the Cowboys drafting Drew Shelton, it makes it very realistic that one of them is gone," Wynston Wilcox of Fansided wrote in his article. "Because blindside tackles are much harder to find than not, Guyton is the one that makes this list."

While Wilcox acknowledges that Guyton is a "good run blocker", he also highlighted that the LT has struggled with pass protection, technique, and consistency.

With Sharp already ranking Dallas' offensive line outside the league's top half, Guyton's performance in training camp could play a major role in determining whether that perception changes entering the regular season.
