Cowboys Icon Makes Bold Tom Brady Claim About Dak Prescott

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has received some criticism from personalities like Stephen A Smith for his playoff runs amid missing postseason football for two consecutive seasons. But Cowboys legend Michael Irvin seems to have a different perspective.

He made a bold claim comparing Prescott’s production to that of veteran QB Tom Brady in a recent clip shared by the 'DLLS Sports' YouTube channel.

“When you look at Dak’s numbers, put them up to Tom Brady’s numbers, any numbers, Dak is right there,” Irvin said. “It’s just right here, in the playoffs, you gotta get over that hump, and Dak has to do it this year. I believe he has the chance to do it because we’ve given the tools with both receivers to do it this year.”

Hall of Famer Irvin said that though Prescott is consistent with his numbers, he is still lacking that playoff win, which would confidently place him among the top quarterbacks of the league.

While not exactly a glorious record, Prescott does have a couple post-season wins in his career with a 2-5 playoff record. Prescott also has a completion rate of 66.9% and a passer rating of 98.3, averaging 258.9 passing yards per game across 10 seasons played.

Compared to that, Brady had recorded a 63.33% completion rate, a 93.3 passer rating, and 239.1 yards per game for the first 10 seasons he played in the league.

As the rules have changed now, where passing offenses are protected by the rules, Prescott has an advantage, according to Sami Haider of The Sporting News.

Over his career, Brady has built a historic resume with seven Super Bowl wins, while Prescott has yet to advance beyond the Divisional Round.

Prescott’s production elevated last year with a fourth 30 TD season since being paired with the wide receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Irvin urges him to make the utmost utilization of it by leading the team to a Super Bowl win.

Analyst Backs Dak Prescott for 2026 NFL MVP Award

On June 1, CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco predicted Prescott to win the 2026 MVP award. He considered Prescott to be one of the most underappreciated players in the league.

"I think Dak Prescott, again, I say it time and again every single season, he's the most underappreciated, underrated player in the National Football League. And if they had any sort of defense, he would be that much better," Prisco said.

In 2025, Prescott completed 404 (the most in the league) of 600 attempts (67.3%) for 4,552 yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

In 2023, he even finished 2nd in voting, with Lamar Jackson taking home the MVP title.

"Every time he took the field last year, he knew he had to put up big numbers, in large part because the defense was awful," Prisco added. "I love what the Cowboys did in the offseason on the defensive side of the ball. And Dak Prescott's going to roll up big numbers."

With the improved defense unit and a highly impressive offense unit, Prescott could perhaps even earn an MVP honor if the team gets into the postseason.
