A Dallas Cowboys insider has cast doubt on offensive tackle Tyler Guyton's future with the team following an inconsistent season. The former first-round pick has yet to establish himself as a reliable player on the offensive line, making the 2026 season a crucial one.
During a guest appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on June 3, Cowboys beat writer Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram had a blunt opinion on Guyton’s position in the present roster room of the team.
“No doubt, this is a do-or-die year for Tyler Guyton, and this training camp is going to be very huge for what his future looks like in Dallas,” Harris said.

Guyton was selected as a first-round pick (No. 29) in the 2024 NFL Draft, and his production in the past two years was marred by injuries.
Though he was a starter during Weeks 1-13 in 2024, he missed the final two games and the training camp in 2025 due to knee and shoulder injuries.
When asked if Guyton has struggled to stay healthy consistently or had less improvement in each season, Harris believes that both go hand in hand.
“I think two things can be true there, and the durability is going to be the biggest thing to watch this offseason because he has not had a healthy training camp yet,” Harris added. “They do feel that there is some confidence that they could see that progression really rise if he is healthy at training camp. But that’s a big if.”
Guard Tyler Smith replaced Guyton last year due to an ankle injury, and he is expected to step in his place during the 2026 season as well, if Guyton struggles to be a starter.
Though both Smith and Guyton have Nate Thomas and rookie Drew Shelton as backups behind them, they have less proven production.
The Cowboys are now also being urged to sign a former Detroit Lions offensive tackle to bring 'security at the left tackle position.'
Cowboys Linked to Veteran OT Taylor Decker
Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News projected former Detroit Lions Taylor Decker as a free agency addition to boost the security at that position.
"Adding someone like Decker would add some security to their left tackle situation," Hoyt wrote. "Decker is heading into his 11th season. He was a Pro Bowl player in 2024 for the Detroit Lions."
The veteran Detroit Lions player formed a formidable partnership alongside Penei Sewell and would undoubtedly be a mammoth addition.
The Cowboys could have to adjust the cap space to sign Decker, but Hoyt urged the Cowboys to sign the OT by adjusting Quinnen Williams' contract.
Adding Decker to the tackle mix would give the Cowboys a proven veteran option while increasing competition at tackle.
