Dallas Cowboys fans always shift their hope to the next season the moment the current one starts tanking. Sticking to that same cycle year after year is exactly why they have now been stuck in a 30-year Super Bowl drought.
But legendary WR Michael Irvin suggested on his YouTube channel that Dallas' Super Bowl drought would soon come to an end following the draft additions this offseason.
“I'm telling you, forever has just ended. It has seemed like forever since we've been in a championship game,” Irvin said Monday. “But forever, with the draft today, that forever has just ended.”
The Cowboys drafted seven athletes this season, including multiple on the defensive side. This was to cater to their defensive struggles last season, ranking dead last in total points allowed.
All these additions gave Irvin enough hope to believe that another Super Bowl win is right around the corner. Following this, he also inspired Cowboys fans not to stop having faith in the team.
“So when it [Super Bowl win] really happens, and you really see it, they wanna discount it because they'll say, 'You've been saying that forever,'” Irvin said. "Don't let that disturb you. Don't let it deter you because I'm telling you, forever has just ended.”
The most prominent additions to the team would be safety Caleb Downs, whom they drafted with the No. 11 overall pick in the first round, and edge rusher Malachi Lawrence, who was selected 23rd overall.
The other defensive additions were LB Jaishawn Barham, CB Devin Moore, and edge LT Overton.
They also drafted WR Anthony Smith in the seventh round amid the contract situation surrounding their current WR George Pickens.
Even the Cowboys’ general manager and owner, Jerry Jones, is confident that the team will make it to the Super Bowl this season.
Jerry Jones Shares His Post-Draft Outlook on the Dallas Cowboys
Following the 2026 NFL Draft, Jerry Jones hinted that he would turn things around for the Cowboys this season.
“We can put it together. [The] two teams in the Super Bowl, they didn’t make the playoffs the year before," Jones said, as per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. "I know it can happen, because I’ve done it when it didn’t work and I’ve done it when it worked. You just keep [swinging] that pick.”
The teams Jones mentioned were the Seattle Seahawks, who won their first Super Bowl since 2013 last season. They defeated the New England Patriots, who last won the big game in 2018.
For the Boys, hopefully, this kind of rise happens as well, and Michael Irvin and Jerry Jones’ confidence comes to life on the field.
