The Dallas Cowboys saw their golden period in the 90s, winning three Super Bowls. Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin was part of that legendary team. Ironically, their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, have only won two in their history.

Surely, Irvin didn't forget to poke fun at the 2024 Super Bowl champions. Recently, he let his honest and raw feelings known for the Eagles through a sharp Instagram post.

"Me preparing for the Netflix doc about why I have more Super Bowl rings than all of Philly," Irvin posted on his official Instagram.

As per Heavy, he attached a video alongside walking into the frame and sitting on the steps in front of the legendary Rocky Balboa statue. Irvin did win three Super Bowls with the Cowboys in his 12-year run (1993,1994 and 1996). The Eagles have won two Super Bowls since then (2018 and 2025).

But Irvin's reason for his animosity towards the Cowboys' division rivals is a lot deeper than you think.

Ironically, it was in a game against the Eagles back in 1999 that his career ended. The challenge from the Eagles' defensive back Tim Hauck forced Irvin to go headfirst into the turf, leading to cervical spinal stenosis.

What followed was loud cheering from the Eagles fans at Irvin's misfortune. As he was wheeled off the stretcher, the audience cheered hoarsely.

Irvin doesn't forget to mock Philly because of it. He even went further to take a sly jab at the Eagles with his comments.

"It was a compliment for Philly to cheer me. Philly wasn't cheering my injury. They were cheering my departure: 'Thank God he's leaving the field; he's been k****** us. Thank God, maybe now we have a chance to win,' said Irvin about the past incident," Irvin added.

Since Irvin was in the city, he dropped by a Philly bar. The intention was to rile up the Philly hardcore fanbase. Getting some Philadelphia-style 'welcome' along the way.

Michael Irvin walks into enemy territory in Philly

Michael Irvin was back in Philly last Sunday for the MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby. Walking into McGillin's Olde Ale House in Center City Philly, he was again greeted by loud Philly fans.

As per Fox News, Irvin walked into the bar wearing his number 88 jersey. Then what ensued was total commotion amidst loud cheers. Irvin was even seen shaking hands with a patron at the establishment.

Irvin has over 1,000 yards and 64 receptions against the Eagles in his career. That is significant for a wide receiver. In his final five seasons, Irvin’s Cowboys went 4–4 against Philadelphia. His 16.4 yards per carry clearly shows why the Eagles team was cheering at his unfortunate exit during their fated game back in 1999.

Irvin might have left behind his playing career, but the rivalry hasn't lost its intensity. He remains the 'villain' in Philadelphia, but there's also a whole lot of love and respect involved, too.

"I love it. As a 45-year-old Philadelphian through and through. I love seeing this 2nd act of Michael Irvin. Continue to inspire. Even though you heard boos, I know you could feel the respect and love," wrote a fan.

That tells you everything about how much Philly fans respect the game above all. Even Irvin doesn't hold any grudge towards Philly fans either. Though he doesn't forget to poke them from time to time to reignite that old rivalry.
