Alvin Kamara's future with the New Orleans Saints after his nine-year tenure is under speculation. The Saints have already signed Travis Etienne in free agency, and he's all set to be the new running back with the Dallas Cowboys

This puts Kamara in an interesting situation. According to market reports, the five time pro bowler (2017-2021) is now being linked to the Dallas Cowboys.

"Alvin Kamara may not be the player he once was, but he can at the very least provide some depth behind Williams," Fansided's Mark Powell wrote. "When Kamara does get in the game...he can make magic happen."

The Cowboys now have Javonte Williams, who rushed for over 1,200 yards in 2025 and signed a three‑year extension. However, behind him are Malik Davis and Jaydon Blue, who have not had that high-level effect on the team.

Davis had several games with under 25 rushing yards. Blue, too, had an uneven season and fell below the expected limit. The Cowboys can change all that with Kamara's introduction.

The Cowboys are also hoping to make a crack at the NFC East this season. The only way to do it is to outscore their opponents, and Kamara can do just that. He has over 7,000 yards and 61 TDs in 126 career games.

The move certainly won't be cheap, however, as it comes with a cap hit of about $10.44 million in 2026. Yet, from how things stand, this looks to be the only way forward after the Saints' coach, Kellen Moore, 's recent press conference.

Kellen Moore Avoids Alvin Kamara's Retirement Question

With the rumors doing the rounds, Saints head coach Kellen Moore was asked about the soon-to-turn-31 Alvin Kamara.

"Yeah, we'd like to go through the process," said Moore," Obviously, Alvin means a lot to us. I'm not going to get in all that stuff. I haven't had this conversation anyway, so."

Moore doesn't really know what the next step will be for Kamara. The signing of Travis Etienne makes it feel that the RB1 slot has been taken up already.

Since the Saints have already got a younger Etienne (27), moving away does seem the next possible step.

Kamara's main role would be to split time with Javonte Williams and the rest of the Cowboys. Dallas has been facing trouble with its offense, and Kamara's addition would change that for them.

Kamara has one active year remaining before the contract shifts to void years. There are also no trade complications involved other than the cap hit, and as such, if a deal has to happen, it will be very straightforward.
