The Dallas Cowboys addressed several defensive needs this offseason, but concerns around the secondary persist. Now, the Cowboys have emerged as a potential landing spot for a former Washington Commanders cornerback.
Pro Football & Sports Network's Priyanshu Choudhary listed the Cowboys as one of the landing spots for the veteran cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who was released in free agency by the Commanders earlier this year.
"While Lattimore isn’t a perennial Pro Bowl candidate anymore, he can still be a factor in big games, as he proved in Washington," Priyanshu Choudhary wrote. "His experience and proven resume could be enough to entice Dallas to take a chance on him."
Choudhary, as per the Pro Football Network article, believes that Lattimore could be a depth addition to the Cowboys' roster, considering their thin depth at cornerback.

Across nine years, Lattimore has recorded a total of 436 tackles (345 solo), eight tackles for loss, and 98 passes defended for 108 games played.
The four-time Pro Bowler has recorded 27 tackles (16 solo), seven passes defended, and one interception across nine games played with the Commanders last season.
He suffered an ACL tear during the Week 9 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in 2025 and was later released by the Commanders in March 2026.
Choudhary further wrote in his article that the Cowboys drafted a cornerback only in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, securing Devin Moore at No. 114 overall, despite a weakness in that position.
The Cowboys currently have DaRon Bland as a starter, with Cobie Durant and Shavon Revel Jr expected to work in rotation, though the availability of Revel and Bland has raised concerns due to their injury history.
Choudhary believes that adding Lattimore could bring in the necessary veteran presence, physicality, and proven outside cornerback ability to address the Cowboys' secondary instability.
However, another NFL sportswriter drew doubts regarding the possibility of the Cowboys signing Lattimore, considering his age and availability for the past few seasons.
Cowboys’ interest in former Pro Bowler comes with one major catch
Mike Moraitis of Sports Illustrated raised concerns about Lattimore's ability to stay healthy over a full 17-game regular season, entering the 2026 season after recovering from a serious knee injury at the age of 30.
"The problem with Lattimore is he simply can't stay healthy, as the four-time Pro Bowler hasn't played in more than 10 games in a season since 2021 and is coming back from a torn ACL," Mike Moraitis of Sports Illustrated wrote in his article.
Moraitis further wrote that Lattimore's production has declined since 2022 after his abdominal injury, making him available only for 35 games across four seasons.
Moraitis believes that adding Lattimore would do little to address the Cowboys' concerns at cornerback, arguing that another injury-prone, inconsistent player could create more uncertainty than stability at the secondary.
