The uncertain future of Alvin Kamara with the New Orleans Saints has become a point of discussion. The trade chatter has now brought in the Dallas Cowboys in the mix.

The Cowboys have running back Javonte Williams as their starter, but the team still has needs at their RB2 position, exactly where Kamara would fit.

"Always chasing big-name playmakers, the Cowboys could be an ideal fit for Kamara as the backup to Javonte Williams," Andrew Buller-Russ of Sports Naut reported Monday. "Plus, there’s a chance that Kamara is approaching the 2026 season with a huge chip on his shoulder after a down season last year."

Kamara is coming off a down year. Last season, he missed six games after suffering a knee sprain in Week 12. But he could get a fresh start with Dallas.

"If so, the Cowboys could be getting a motivated star, much like they benefited from last season with George Pickens," Buller-Russ added.

Wide receiver George Pickens was time and again pointed out for his behavioral issues with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since joining the Cowboys, not only have those issues reduced, but the WR has had the best year of his career with the Boys in 2025.

Mickey Loomis, general manager of the Saints, spoke about Kamara's future while talking about roster building and salary cap management.

"We're just trying to see how he's gonna fit on our roster. Obviously, there's a resource management element. We'll get to that over the next week or two," Loomis said Monday.

Kamara has long been seen as one of the league's most versatile offensive players. Although the veteran stays under contract, the Saints' offseason additions, which include Travis Etienne, have created uncertainty about how the franchise plans to use Kamara.

However, the Saints have options for what to do about Kamara if they don't trade him.

Saints Face Alvin Kamara Decision Ahead of Training Camp

The Saints now have some options on how they can handle Alvin Kamara's situation, as per ESPN's Katherine Terrell.

"The Saints have several options they could attempt to pursue, whether that's approaching Kamara for a pay cut, releasing him after June 1 or trading him," Terrell reported May 19.

Kamara signed a two-year, $24.5 million contract in 2024. If New Orleans keeps him for the final year of his contract, he costs them $10.4 million against the cap.

Releasing or trading him pre-June 1 doesn't make much sense, as the Saints will have to take a hit on their savings. But a post-June 1 trade seems favorable.

The post-trade divides the dead cap in two years and saves $3.3 million in cap space.

However, as training camp gets close, the pressure only intensifies. Until then, there will be noise on Kamara.
