Something big is brewing in Dallas, and it’s not just another draft rumor.

Jerry Jones could be lining up a bold move that reshapes the Cowboys’ future.

The Dallas Cowboys are being linked with a bold draft strategy by owner/president/general manager Jerry Jones that could bring in two standout prospects from the Oregon Ducks football.

As reported by Sports Illustrated, Jerry Jones is exploring a coordinated move to target both safety Dillon Thieneman, the no.20 overall pick, and linebacker Bryce Boettcher, the no.92 overall pick, signaling a defense-first approach.

The idea centers on adding high-IQ, versatile defenders who can immediately contribute, setting up Dallas for a potential identity shift on that side of the ball.

The safety Dillion Thieneman could be the potential first-round pick. At the NFL combine, his stats outshone those of the others. A 4.35-second 40-yard dash with a 41-inch vertical jump at 6 feet and 201 pounds.

As reported by PFF, Dillion has the prospect grade of 6.32, a decent production score of 77, and an explicit athleticism score of 86. He is known for his instincts and playmaking ability, which will help the Dallas Cowboys in building a strong defensive lineup during the NFL draft.

NFL draft analyst Lance Zierlein on Dillion wrote, “Thieneman is an extension of his defensive coordinator, aligning and adjusting the secondary to motion and pre-snap shifts,” Zierlein said. “He’s an instinctive, rangy safety who can roll down into big nickel or robber positioning.

Moving to linebacker Bryce Boettcher, known for his work ethic and athletic ability, he could add effort and versatility to Dallas’ defense. As per PFF, Bryce possesses a prospect grade of 5.98, a production score of 74, and a decent athleticism score of 71.

What Jerry Jones Gains If Cowboys Land These Oregon Stars in the Draft

If Jerry Jones pulls this off, it gives the Dallas Cowboys immediate defensive balance.

Dillon Thieneman upgrades the back end with range and ball tracking, while Bryce Boettcher adds speed and tackling in the second level.

Lance Zierlein compared Thieneman to the New York Giants safety   Jevon Holland in his pre-draft evaluation. “Savvy three-year starter with NFL size, speed, and alignment versatility,” Zierlein wrote.

While answering the question of what an NFL team gets if they draft Boettcher, Boettcher said, “I’d say, number one, someone that's all about the team...Number two, someone who's relentless and who plays with a lot of passion. And number three, I'd say physical football player to physical presence....,” he concluded.

This combination directly improves coverage flexibility and run fits. More importantly, this move aligns with how Dallas wants to defend modern offenses.

Is this the right move for Dallas, or a risky gamble that could backfire later? Let us know in the comments!
