Cowboys' Maxx Crosby Pursuit Gets Intriguing Jerry Jones Update

The Dallas Cowboys' search for defensive reinforcements may not be over just yet. DE Maxx Crosby is once again part of the conversation after the Las Vegas Raiders star remained with the team.

Earlier this year, a blockbuster trade of Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens collapsed over a failed medical. Jerry Jones' latest comments, during Tuesday's training camp press conference, have only renewed interest in Dallas' pursuit when questioned by reporters.

"There's nothing more to elaborate about, but we did not walk away," said Jones. "That's about all there is to say, because we understood his injury well, and so we thought he could help us then, and we're surprised the way that was resolved."

Jerry Jones' comments during the Cowboys' July 28 press conference suggest Dallas remains interested only in pursuing players capable of making an immediate impact rather than simply adding depth.

Crosby nearly joined the Ravens in March after Baltimore agreed to send two first-round picks to Las Vegas. However, the deal fell apart after the Ravens' medical staff flagged Crosby's physical, allowing the Raiders star to remain available as speculation about his future continued.

Jones also made clear that speculation wasn't welcome now that the situation had run its course.

"To inject anything about what we're thinking or doing into it, because he went back to the Raiders, would be a mistake. He's a Raider," Jones added.

According to Mauricio Rodriguez of AtoZ Sports, players such as DE Josh Sweat, DT Vita Vea, and OL Kayvon Thibodeaux have been mentioned in some of the reports surrounding possible trades, but none of them seem to be as impactful as Crosby could be to the Cowboys’ defense.

Jones' remarks naturally renewed speculation because Dallas previously made multiple attempts to acquire Crosby earlier this offseason.

While Jones declined to discuss any specific trade targets further, his comments came during a broader discussion about Dallas' offseason approach, where he and head coach Brian Schottenheimer offered slightly different perspectives.

Jerry Jones and Brian Schottenheimer disagree on one aspect of Cowboys' offseason

Jerry Jones' latest comments come at a time when the Cowboys' training camp has just begun. Yet, the bigger takeaway for Cowboys owner is that they have managed to have a distraction-free offseason

"I like the idea that the word is that we have had a quiet offseason relative to... off-the-field noise or chatter," Jones said during the same press conference. "I personally like the fact that the perception is that it's been a quiet, non-confrontational offseason."

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer, however, argued the offseason was anything but quiet from a football standpoint.

"The personnel moves that we made... it was not a quiet offseason for us. It was a great offseason for us," Schottenheimer said, pointing to additions including Rashan Gary, Dee Winters, Caleb Downs and Malachi Lawrence as Dallas looked to rebuild its defense.

While Jones stopped short of discussing specific trade targets, his comments confirmed Dallas never completely abandoned its pursuit of Crosby, ensuring speculation surrounding another blockbuster move will continue throughout training camp.
