Cowboys May Cut $136 Million WR for George Pickens, Believes NFL Analyst

The Dallas Cowboys made a major investment when they signed WR CeeDee Lamb to a four-year, $136 million extension in 2024. But with WR George Pickens now rising, the Dallas franchise would face a difficult decision.

NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky highlighted on ESPN's Get Up on Monday that, with two star receivers on the team, Dallas might have to cut ties with one of them at the end of the season. Orlovsky believes that Lamb will be traded during the 2027 offseason.

"They're not keeping both of them," Orlovsky said. "So it's going to be signing George Pickens to a long-term deal that they've been hesitant to do, or CeeDee Lamb's going to be traded.”

Comparing the Cowboys' two star receivers, Orlovsky said CeeDee Lamb has done more to establish himself as a dependable presence, while questions remain about George Pickens' maturity.

"I think CeeDee's proven to be a little bit more reliable, I guess, in personality maybe. I think there's still some question marks in regards to George Pickens proving that maturity, but they're not keeping both."

Lamb has been the face of the Cowboys' passing attack for years. He has earned five Pro Bowl selections and established himself as one of football's best playmakers since entering in 2020.

At the same time, Pickens has quickly become a major part of Dallas. He had a breakout campaign that included a career high of 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns while earning his first Pro Bowl.

Meanwhile, Stephen Jones, co-owner of the franchise, stated that Dallas was not pursuing a multi-year extension, allowing Pickens to play under the franchise tag.

This makes it more intriguing. If Pickens continues to grow at an elite level, Dallas could be forced to choose between maintaining Lamb's huge deal or investing in a young receiver entering his prime, as per the Dallas Morning News.

However, Lamb has recently dropped honest comments on the team's defense preparation.

CeeDee Lamb's Honest Assessment of the Cowboys' Defense

Speaking with NFL Network's Jane Slater, Lamb said the defense has made life difficult for the offense during offseason workouts.

“It's been annoying to prepare against. It's kind of unique just seeing different guys communicate and being able to understand and take what they learn from the meeting room and being able to easily translate it on the field. It's very tricky, but as for offenses, we just got to play fast and get to our spots,” Lamb said.

Lamb credited the defense for staying connected on the field and quickly applying what it learns in meetings.

Last year, Dallas struggled defensively, which led the franchise to make changes, including adding new DC Christian Parker and multiple new defensive players.

But if Parker's team can become a reliable unit, the Cowboys could step into the NFC race.
