Jerry Jones made it clear that reaching the playoffs is no longer enough for this organization. Winning a championship is the only accepted standard for success in 2026. To reach that goal, he is willing to make another major roster move if it helps Dallas compete.

"I would look at that and use a parallel and say, 'We've got Dak,'" Jones said. "Okay, where can we be more aggressive in looking at what the Rams have done?" 

He believes quarterback Dak Prescott gives Dallas a championship window right now. This mindset connects to the aggressive roster-building philosophy the Los Angeles Rams have used to win titles.

According to an article published on the official Dallas Cowboys website, Jones said the team remains open to making a "substantive" addition, particularly on defense. 

"Or for that matter, looking at what New England has done. I'm unabashed about sitting down and visiting with the competition about how they're doing it and how they're doing it better. I continue to do it," Jones added.  

Jones is willing to use future draft picks, salary-cap flexibility, or other trade assets if the perfect player becomes available. He also clarified that looking for outside help does not reflect any lack of confidence in the current roster. 

He feels this season could be different because the Cowboys have been very close to a title before. Jones has high confidence in head coach Brian Schottenheimer and the entire new coaching staff. 

While improvement is still expected during the regular season, this confidence will motivate the club's pursuit of Super Bowl LXI after a long 30-year championship drought.

Jones also clarified his comments about major roster changes. He mentioned earlier that certain things on the roster "won't stay in place" moving forward. 

Having owned the team for 35 years, he has watched thousands of players come and go, understanding that constant change is just a normal part of the sport.

According to CBS Sports, the Cowboys made some of their biggest roster moves over the past year. The front office traded star edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. In return, Dallas received defensive tackle Kenny Clark and multiple first-round draft picks. 

They also acquired Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams right before the trade deadline. These moves show he has already proven he is willing to make blockbuster trades to shake things up.

The 2025 defense struggled throughout the entire season. They finished as the worst-scoring defense in the league and ranked near the bottom in both total defense and pass defense. 

Christian Parker arrived as the new defensive coordinator to fix these issues. Jones is still looking for another impact defender to help the defense if the right opportunity appears.

He is highly willing to sacrifice future assets for present success on the field. Future draft picks are expendable for the right player to fit the system. Future salary-cap space could also be used to bring in high-level talent today.
