With the season fast approaching, the Dallas Cowboys have business to settle and plenty of contracts to sort out.
Fans are demanding answers from Jerry Jones, and when it comes to kicker Brandon Aubrey, the owner didn't stay silent.
“I’m satisfied where we are there,” Jones said. “I’m not going to get into what it would take because that’s obviously still subject to negotiation, but we do have long-term plans (with Aubrey).”
In earlier negotiations, the Dallas Cowboys offered to make Brandon Aubrey the league’s highest-paid kicker. However, the downside was that there was no commitment to a long-term agreement.
In addition to that, much like the Pickens situation, Jones is quite comfortable leaving Aubrey play the season on a $5.7 million second-round tender.
It's no secret that Aubrey is still a free agent, and there’s a high chance that he could move to another team if they offer a more lucrative deal with long-term stability.
Of course, the Dallas will have the option to match it, but if they don't, then they will have to say goodbye to their star kicker.
While it’s clear they’re not planning to lose him. Jones, being the tough negotiator he is, might be angling for a more lucrative deal for himself.
With that said, Aubrey himself appears to be losing patience.
What Did Brandon Aubrey Say About His Contract Situation?
The Dallas Cowboys are willing to make Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, a title currently held by Ka'imi Fairbairn at $6.5 million per year, but they’re not willing to go beyond that.
Meanwhile, Aubrey’s team is looking for somewhere around $10 million per year.
While discussions are ongoing, the star kicker appears to be losing patience.
“It's not something that I have control over as the term restricted applies there," Aubrey said at an Arlington Grand Prix event on Wednesday.
He further added, "Obviously, Dallas is my home. I'd like to keep it that way, so it would be nice to get a long-term deal going. Just need to sit down and have that conversation."
With the situation turning a bit grim, the Dallas Cowboys will have to act quickly before other teams snap up their star players.
