Cowboys Star Makes Contract Demand From Jerry Jones Amid Stalled Negotiation

While the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones have been busy making moves, star kicker Brandon Aubrey is in the news yet again.

So far, the two parties have still not reached an agreement on a new contract. Aubrey, while speaking to Jeff Kolb of FOX4, made a subtle remark on the contract he would like to have.

Kolb asked Aubrey about the Houston Texans' kicker, Ka’imi Fairbairn, getting a record NFL deal.

“Yeah, that’s always a positive. Anytime the market goes up as a whole, every kicker makes money. Like I’d say, anybody who’s signing a new deal, the price has gone up a little bit,” he said.

Jerry Jones would not want to miss out on one of the best kickers in the NFL, and for that, he needs to open the chequebook. Aubrey has made it quite clear that he wants to continue in Dallas.

“Obviously, Dallas is my home. I’d like to keep it that way, so it would be nice to get a long-term deal going,” Aubrey said.

Even though Jones had confirmed that there was an offer on the table, Aubrey was ready to wait patiently as the Cowboys sorted through other issues first.

Brandon Aubrey is currently a restricted free agent and has a second-round tender placed on him. Jones and the Cowboys would need to act fast before Aubrey kicks field goals elsewhere.

How will this deal change things for Brandon Aubrey?

For the Kickers, it was Harrison Butker who held the honor for the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, earning an annual salary of $6.4 million. Unfortunately for him, that's not the case anymore.

Ka’imi Fairbairn holds that prestige now, striking a two-year deal worth $13 million with the Texans. It works out to an average annual salary of $6.5 million.

Last season, Aubrey scored 155 points in 17 games. He converted 11 out of 17 field goals with 50+ yard distance, with 85.7% accuracy. Still, his agent's demand of a $10 million contract is nowhere near what Fairbairn is getting.

Aubrey and the Cowboys continue to be a hot topic as we move closer to the next NFL season.
