As the Dallas Cowboys weigh one of their biggest roster decisions in the ongoing left tackle battle during training camp, guard Tyler Smith has made his stance clear while leaving the final call to the Cowboys coaching staff.
During a brief media session at training camp on July 27, Smith revealed that he has yet to be informed about a possible positional change. At the moment, it seems the Cowboys want him to remain as guard. But a final decision is yet to be made.
"You know, we'll see what happens," Smith said, per Patrick Walker of DallasCowboys.com. "Ultimately, Schotty makes those decisions. Wherever I do line up, I'm gonna be at the best of my abilities."

As the three-time Pro Bowler enters his fifth season with the Cowboys, he will serve as a mentor for guard Tyler Booker and left tackles Guyton and Nate Thomas.
"It's a blessing and a privilege to be able to play the game," Smith said of being a veteran, per Patrick Walker of DallasCowboys.com. "Every year is a blessing. You never know which one could be your last, but I think the biggest thing and part upon them is just continuing to adhere to the process."
Smith logged 295 snaps at the left tackle position for the last two seasons, stepping in for left tackles Tyler Guyton and Nate Thomas as both dealt with injuries.
He played three games last season at left tackle, when Guyton was placed on injured reserve in December last year due to an ankle sprain.
He also played at left tackle in 2022 for 977 snaps after former LT Tyron Smith suffered a torn hamstring during training camp.
Training camp will determine the starting role at the left tackle position, as Guyton and Thomas are set to compete with each other. The Cowboys also have rookie Drew Shelton in the mix for depth at tackle, with Smith serving as insurance.
While Smith is expected to remain at guard, his proven ability to slide over to left tackle gives the Cowboys valuable flexibility.
He also backed the Cowboys' Super Bowl aspirations despite uncertainty at left tackle.
Tyler Smith says Cowboys' Super Bowl aspirations are "extremely realistic"
As the Cowboys continue searching for answers at left tackle, which is responsible for protecting quarterback Dak Prescott's blind side, Smith believes the team can be a contender if everyone continues to put in necessary work.
"I think it's extremely realistic," Smith said during the same training camp media session on July 27, per Patrick Walker. "I think if you put in the work and you do what you're supposed to do, and you continue to attack it every day, like you're supposed to attack it, you can be a champion."
Smith believes the defensive overhaul made during the offseason could push the Cowboys to be a Super Bowl contender.
Smith expressed confidence in the addition of young guys in the defense unit, adding that they "got a lot of juice" that will reflect in the 2026 season.
Should the Cowboys keep Tyler Smith at guard, or move him to left tackle? Let us know in the comments.
