The Dallas Cowboys are shaping their offense heading into the 2026 season, and the young wide receiver, Ryan Flournoy, seems to be positioned for a larger role.
"The goal for Flournoy heading into his third season with the Cowboys is being consistent in the habits that helped him get to this point, and continuing to grow his confidence as he settles into the WR3 role behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens," wrote reporter Tommy Yarish of DallasCowboys.com on June 24.
As per Yarish, the Cowboys seem impressed by the strides he has made since entering the league.
Flournoy was drafted in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he had modest production. In 2025, he stepped up with 35 receptions for 407 yards and 4 touchdowns. In total, he recorded 50 career receptions for 577 yards and four touchdowns across two seasons.

Flournoy looks forward to maintaining the habits that helped him reach this stage and to continue building his self-confidence as he starts playing as a WR3 behind CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
His true breakout arrived during a dominant Week 14 showcase against the Detroit Lions, where he shredded the secondary to haul in a career-high nine receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown
During the 2026 Cowboys OTAs from June 1, as Pickens was absent and Lamb had excused absences, Flournoy played the role of WR1 behind quarterback Dak Prescott, being the one option, and that totally benefited him.
If either Lamb or Pickens is unavailable, Flournoy’s first major test will come in Week 1 of the 2026 season against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
While Ryan Flournoy is expected to play a larger role in Dallas as per Yarish of DallasCowboys.com, his growing confidence is also creating competition within one of the Cowboys' position groups.
Ryan Flournoy's growing confidence makes Cowboys' WR battle more competitive
Ryan Flournoy is not backing off, even after sharing the wide receiver room with stars like Lamb and Pickens. He believes the biggest difference in his game is his confidence, something he missed during his rookie season.
"That's where my confidence really stems from," Flournoy said via DallasCowboys.com's Tommy Yarish. "My preparation, how I try to be the first one here, I try to be the last one to leave. I try extra with my body, extra mentally, learning the plays and learning what other people got and just being prepared so I can go out there and be free."
After earning the WR3 role with 35 receptions for 407 yards and four touchdowns in 2025, he is now aiming higher in 2026. His improvement and work ethic have made him one of Dallas' most interesting breakout candidates.
As Pickens stays firm as the No. 2 receiver, Flournoy's development proves competition will not fade. If he continues at the same level, the Cowboys could have another reliable offensive weapon ready.
Flournoy's rapid maturity gives Dallas critical long-term financial leverage, especially with George Pickens currently playing on a hefty $27.3 million franchise tag and expected to test the open free agent market in 2027
