Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby could enter the NFL through a supplemental draft following interest from Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Sorsby is currently banned from college football by the NCAA due to an alleged gambling violation.

In a post on X, Yahoo Sports reporter Jori Epstein shared Jones’ response after asking whether he would want the NFL to hold a supplemental draft for Brendan Sorsby.

"I do like the supplemental draft. Especially where we are. The sooner to today that we can get as many good ones on the field, that's a plus for us. Cause I’m in that mood," Jones said.

She added that an injunction hearing is set for next week, while gambling concerns, the team’s evaluation of Sorsby, and the value of a possible 2027 draft pick are still part of the situation the league needs to work through.

Last season with the Cincinnati Bearcats, he played in 12 games, completing 207 of 336 passes for 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Across four seasons, including the first two with the Indiana Hoosiers, he has played in 35 games, completing 61.4% passes for 7,208 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.

Sorsby is one of the most polarizing names connected to the supplemental draft. Despite concerns about his gambling-related investigations, tied to his college eligibility, Texas Tech continues to support him publicly.

NCAA Denies Brendan Sorsby's Reinstatement

Sorsby's NFL eligibility will likely be determined within the next few weeks. After the NCAA denied the Texas Tech quarterback's reinstatement request for the 2026 season.

Sorsby is seeking clarity before June 22, which is the deadline to declare for the supplemental draft. If the NCAA appeal and legal efforts fail, then the QB could officially become eligible to enter the NFL.

He acknowledged in his lawsuit that he bet on Indiana football games while on the team. He made it clear that he never bet on the game he played in, nor did he bet against his team. He even went under a 35-day rehabilitation program for his gambling addiction, as per Pete Thamel of ESPN.

If Sorsby officially enters the supplemental draft pool, he could be picked by the NFL teams.
