Cris Carter, a former Minnesota Vikings player, has discussed the Cowboys' future and highlighted team success, recalling a long-standing conversation with the Cowboys' legend, Michael Irvin, and how he could have won Super Bowls, too, in his position.
Speaking on the Fully Loaded podcast, Carter acknowledged Irvin's three Super Bowl victories but argued that championships alone don't define a wide receiver individually, especially when comparing players who serve different roles.
"The only number that he really wanted to emphasize was the three Super Bowls," said Carter on Fully Loaded Podcast. "And I was like, well, I was in the league the same time as you. If I'm on Dallas those same amount of years, no, first of all, you go to Minnesota, you guys still don't win a Super Bowl."

Carter argued that the Cowboys' roster during the 1990s had elite talent across the board, from QB Troy Aikman and running back Emmitt Smith to one of the NFL's strongest offensive lines.
"You in Minnesota, they're not going to win. You're not going to do better numbers than I did," said Carter on the Fully Loaded.ThePodcast. "You cannot say that me and Dallas at the same time you there with the same cast of characters, we are not going to win a couple Super Bowls.' Correct. Of course you are. And he was like, 'You're right about that'."
According to Carter, switching positions could have changed how both receivers' careers are remembered, proving how team quality influenced championship opportunities. The numbers show why the comparison is compelling.
Carter retired with 1,101 receptions, 13,899 receiving yards, and 130 touchdown catches in 234 games. In comparison, Irvin's numbers were lower with 750 receptions, 11,904 receiving yards, and 65 touchdowns across 159 games.
While Irvin collected three Super Bowl rings with Dallas, Carter never reached the Super Bowl but became one of the league's most productive receivers with the Minnesota Vikings. Still, both receivers are Hall of Famers today.
At the end, Carter's comments were less about diminishing Irvin's legacy and more about how greatness should be measured. Individual excellence should not be overshadowed by team championship, particularly when players perform under different situations.
While Carter's take on championships started debates, he also made it clear that his respect for Irvin's talent has never been in question.
Cris Carter gives Michael Irvin full credit while discussing the Cowboys' dynasty
Cris Carter has nothing but admiration for Michael Irvin's talent on the field. Speaking on the same Fully Loaded podcast, he described Irvin as one of the defining receivers of his era.
"..Definitely one of the great receivers of our era," said Carter on the Fully Loaded Podcast. "I think, as we have seen receivers over the last several years, you have to give Michael credit for being on some great teams. Also, you know, having Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, an offensive line, like he got a lot of favorable looks and he took advantage of it."
Carter acknowledged that the former Dallas Cowboys star took advantage of every chance he got. He believed that Troy Aikman's assistance helped Emmitt Smith in some situations.
He also credits the Hall of Famer for giving his best with the supporting offense around him when the Cowboys needed him most.
