Dak Prescott Breaks Silence on Weight Talk Following OTA Appearance

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) looks for an open receiver as New York Giants linebacker Abdul Carter (51) runs towards him, Sunday, January 4, 2026, in East Rutherford.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, found himself at the center of an unexpected offseason discussion after reporters and fans noticed a slimmer look during the team’s OTA sessions. Now, the veteran shot-caller has clarified matters.

During the OTA media session on June 9, All City DLLS reporter Clarence Hill Jr. asked the four-time Pro Bowler about his apparent weight loss since the end of last season.

“Asked Dak Prescott if he lost some weight, he said he hasn’t purposely,” per X post of Clarence Hill Jr. “He said if he had, it was probably due to stress. Since you opened that door, do you want to talk about that stress? I’m closing it right back, he said."

Prescott completed the most passes in the league in 2025 with 404 of 600 passes for 4,552 yards, 10 interceptions, and 30 touchdowns, and had a 2-5 playoff record.

The shot-caller has a completion rate of 66.9% and a passer rating of 98.3, averaging 258.9 passing yards per game across 10 seasons played with the Cowboys.

Though Prescott is listed at 6-foot-2, 238 pounds as per ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys website has his weight recorded as 230 pounds.

He was also previously speculated to have shed 50 pounds during the 2025 offseason, where tight end Jake Ferguson teased him to be a ‘Slim Reaper.’

While the reason for the recent weight loss is uncertain, Prescott does have a lot of pressure to perform and prove himself in his 11th season with the Cowboys.

Just last season, Prescott recorded 30 touchdowns for a fourth time, equalling Tony Romo's record at the franchise.

One analyst believes Prescott's issue has never been his regular-season production, but rather his inability to translate that success into deep playoff runs.

Analyst Points to Playoff Struggles as Prescott's Biggest Hurdle

ESPN's Dan Graziano, in his article about '32 questions for 32 quarterbacks,' posed a question about whether Prescott would finally add playoff success to his resume.

"In that time [10 years], he has a record of 83-55-1 in the regular season but is just 2-5 in the playoffs," Graziano wrote. "It's easy for fans to wonder whether he'll ever attain the postseason success they expect, especially if the Cowboys again struggle to even contend for the postseason."

The Cowboys performed poorly last year, finishing with a disappointing 7-9-1 record.

Though they ranked 2nd overall in total offense for the 2025 NFL season, they ranked historically bad at overall defense (at No. 30) and last (No. 32) in scoring defense, allowing an average of 30+ points per game.

"... but Prescott is one of the most established, entrenched starters in the league," Graziano further wrote. "There aren't many more questions for him to answer. Except the big one."

Graziano believes that, if the defense performs fairly well and Prescott is available throughout the season, the Cowboys have a high chance of returning to the playoffs.
