Dak Prescott claims his mother's love "that's enough" after becoming Cowboys' all-time touch down leader

Dak Prescott made Cowboys history Sunday, but his 249th touchdown pass quickly became about something more personal. In Dallas’ 37-20 Week 2 win over the Commanders, Prescott threw his fourth touchdown to CeeDee Lamb, passing Tony Romo for the most touchdown passes in franchise history.

Prescott said he felt his late mother Peggy with him when he made history.

“My mom was never short or never hesitant to tell me how proud she was of me. She was never, never short of that. And I could just hear that," Dak Prescott said. "And that's enough.”

The milestone moved Prescott past a long list of Cowboys quarterbacks: Roger Staubach (153), Danny White (155), Troy Aikman (165) and Romo (248). Prescott finished with 279 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Lamb became the target for 37 of his 249 scoring throws.

“Super, super honored. Super thankful. God's great. Not taking it lightly. But as I told you, it's just the beginning. I want to double it and plan to play for a while, so just getting started,” Prescott said, according to the Dallas Cowboys official website.

Jerry Jones praised Prescott’s work ethic, while Brian Schottenheimer pointed to the quarterback’s demanding film routine and preparation. Prescott also credited his mother and brothers for giving him the confidence to dream big.

“I had a mom and I had brothers who poured gas on those thoughts who told me I could,” Prescott added.

For Prescott, the 249th touchdown was another Cowboys record, but the person he heard in that moment made the achievement feel much bigger.

The record was personal for Prescott, but so was the belief behind it. He later opened up about how his family helped shape the confidence that carried him to this point.

Why did Dak Prescott’s record-setting moment mean so much to him?

Dak Prescott’s 24-yard pass to CeeDee Lamb gave him 249 career touchdown passes, moving him past Tony Romo as the Cowboys’ all-time leader.

“It was definitely fitting and it wasn’t a great ball,” Prescott said, according to the North Dallas Gazette. “CeeDee, please just get this over with,” and he did.

Prescott now holds Dallas’ franchise records for passing touchdowns, passing yards, completions, attempts and completion percentage.

After reaching the top of the touchdown list, though, he said he is not planning to stop there.

“Super, super honored. Super thankful. God's great. Not taking it lightly. But as I told you, it's just the beginning. I want to double it and plan to play for a while, so just getting started,” Prescott added.

The Cowboys improved to 1-1 with the win and will head to Rio de Janeiro next, where they face the Baltimore Ravens on September 27.

For Prescott, the latest milestone is another chapter in a career built around the belief his family gave him from the start.
