Entering his 11th season with the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Dak Prescott has already established himself as one of the NFL's most productive passers. One ESPN analyst believes that Prescott could reach an elite passing milestone that remains to be added to his resume.
ESPN’s Ben Solak predicted Prescott could throw for 5,000 yards and become the 10th quarterback in the league to do so in the 2026 season.
“To clear 5,000 passing yards in a 17-game season, a quarterback must average 294.1 passing yards per contest,” Solak wrote. “In Prescott's best season (2019), he averaged 306.4 yards per contest and fell just 100 yards short of the 5,000-yard mark since there were 16 games.”

Prescott was nearly short of reaching the elite 5,000-yard mark in 2019, where he passed for 4,902 yards, averaging 306.4 yards per game with 65.1% completion percentage.
“Prescott had a career-high 600 total pass attempts," Solak wrote in his ESPN article. "The volume will be there for Prescott to not just lead the league in passing in 2026 but to once again challenge for the 5,000-yard milestone.”
Dallas employed an up-tempo, high-volume offensive scheme, ranking first in offensive plays per game and play clock remaining at the snap. As a result, Prescott led the NFL in completions for the second time over the past three seasons.
He completed 404 of 600 pass attempts for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns, and with this new prediction, he could surpass Tony Romo’s franchise record for most passing yards in a single season (4,903).
Solak believes that Prescott could reach the 5,000-yard mark under head coach Brian Schottenheimer and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams' "superspeed ways" along with the impactful wide receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
While Prescott is surrounded by weapons to create a historic passing season, stability at the left tackle position draws concerns for the offensive line unit.
NFL insider says Dak Prescott's 2026 success hinges on one Cowboys position battle
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes that if the "blindside protector position" at left tackle is converted into a strength, the protection could provide Prescott with the stability he needs to have a breakout campaign.
"If Brian Schottenheimer and Klayton Adams can make that spot a strength, then the line can be the team’s foundation, and Dak Prescott will have everything he needs around him to have a career year," Breer wrote in his article.
The left tackle battle between Nate Thomas and Tyler Guyton is one of the biggest position battles of the Cowboys in the offseason, though many analysts believe Guyton to be the favorite for the tackle spot.
Breer believes that, with a powerful offense and a revamped defense under defensive coordinator Christian Parker, the Cowboys would be in a position to reach the playoffs in the 2026 season.
