The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, received the ‘Good Guy’ award presented by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA).

The PFWA Good Guy Award is presented annually to an NFL player for their professional qualities and style in helping the pro football writers do their jobs.

Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins, who is also the PFWA vice president for the Dallas chapter and the former PFWA president, praised Prescott.

“Dak Prescott is one of the more accessible star players in the NFL,” Watkins said. “ He talks once a week during the season and, of course, after every game...Dak explains the game to you from a game plan standpoint and reviews certain plays if you ask. The trust he has with the beat writers is respected on both sides."

Prescott won the award over the finalists, being Cleveland Browns guard Joel Bitonio and Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard III.

He was awarded the local Dallas chapter PFWA award in the same category in 2017 and 2019. The PFWA maintains a local chapter for every NFL team.

As Prescott won it twice, they named their local Dallas chapter award after him, starting with the 2025 presentation. He was the finalist for the 'Good Guy' award in 2024, but Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud won the honor then.

Prescott is the first Cowboys player and the 22nd NFL player to win the award in this category since its induction in 2005. Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis (Pittsburgh Steelers) won the first 'Good Guy' award.

In 2025, Philadelphia Eagles' defensive end Brandon Graham won that award.

As Prescott receives the recognition off-field, his former teammates back him for his leadership and behavior.

Former Cowboys CB Backs Dak Prescott

Former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis backed Prescott for his character and leadership during his appearance on the Just Earn It podcast, released on May 23.

"I love Dak. I love the type of leader he is," Lewis said. "I love the type of player he is. I mean, he's gone through so much, and he fights back every single time. I believe in the quarterback, and you need that in the NFL. You have to believe in the quarterback. That's No. 1, and I believed in him."

Heading into his 11th season with the Cowboys, Prescott faced criticism after missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons, with many questioning his production and lack of playoff success.

"It's difficult to admit, but Prescott has officially reached 'unc' [uncle] status," Landry Hat's Jerry Trotta wrote. "He's among the league's oldest starting QBs, and the window to deliver a Super Bowl to Dallas isn't staying open forever."

Trotta argued that, with the quarterback being the most important position in this sport, it is about time for Prescott to match the belief teammates and fans continue to place in him.
