Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott
Jerry Jones is ready to open the checkbook. His promise to 'bust the budget' has star quarterback Dak Prescott fired up and signaling big changes for the Cowboys' 2026 season.
The star quarterback made an appearance at the 36th annual Children’s Cancer Ball and Gala on Wednesday, where he spoke enthusiastically about Jones’ comments.
Prescott said, “H*** yeah. Especially with what he said, ‘No projects. No redshirts.’ We got a coach in his second year. We had some ups and downs, sure had some good moments last year, and this is the year that we can make a big jump. Getting good players that can help immediately is a key part of that.”
They plan to restructure star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb’s contract. The team has plenty of money to bring in defensive free agents once the new league season starts on March 11. And those changes will be the most important, especially after they were one of the worst defenses in the league.
Talks are also ongoing for restructuring key defensive contracts of Quinnen Williams, Osa Odighizuwa, and Kenny Clark, who add up to a total of $64 million.
But that's not all. Schottenheimer is taking the lead in coaching Prescott and shoring up the offense.
Speaking about this, Prescott said, “All those little nuances. If there’s one thing, it’s really cementing my footwork. That might be something that people might not even realize or see, but it’s something I want to do to be a perfectionist in the way that we do things. I started doing new things last year with Schotty pointing at the footwork, and some of it is just not to the standard that we want it to be. That’s a big part of it.”
At the same time, Prescott tried to help his team and sent a clear message to wide receiver.
Prescott has key advice for George Pickens
In the event, Prescott also shared some key pieces of advice for fellow teammate and star wide receiver George Pickens. The Cowboys have placed the franchise tag on Pickens following long, drawn-out speculations.
Speaking about Pickens, Prescott said, “George loves football,” he said. “That’s the one thing about it. I just want him to know, ‘Don’t change your love for football. Don’t get into the business mind of this.’ Last year, he played on a one-year deal for not even that much. So, $30 [million] or whatever it is now, that’s the same thing I got when I got franchised. So, hey, go do it.”
Dak Prescott is experienced in this matter, as he was franchise tagged twice by the Cowboys.
